Thanks, Russ! It'll make me feel (slightly) better that I'm stuck in Virginia this weekend.

That's not good Don, I don't think you've ever missed a Gathering before, is everything ok.

We're fine, Russ. Just some commitments that wouldn't go away. Pbbbbt!

You and Lou Ann took a year off once, so it's my turn this time. But I'll be there for the 15th Annual Gathering.

Lou Ann and I will miss you and Carol. I think I'll make a big cutout of you and stand it next to TT if he shows up.

My fellow Cub from John Brown's we're out around 8 A.M. tasting the early morning air. We found a smooth gentle, slight breeze out of the East Northeast. Looks like some haze from fog and smoke.

Looks like a great turnout, Russ! Congratulations!

(Is there sound with the video?)

(If the camera were aimed slightly lower we could see people closer to the house, where it would be easier to recognize them. The top of the right-hand tree at the top of the frame would probably be about right and would still show fly-bys well enough.)

    Next year, Don. Next year.

Deal. I'll meet you at KARW at noon on March 27th or 28th, depending on the weather, and we'll camp in Russ' back yard that night.

I like the plan. I'll have to check to see if we have a spring outage next year at McGuire - no vacation during refueling outages at nuke station. Or, I may re-retire after this year and start enjoying life. But, I'm putting your plan on my calendar. You know, I'm really close to 14A which you come really close to on your way to Beaufort. I could just intercept you on your way down.

Dennis, I picked KARW because it seemed a good point on the coast for both of us. From the Richmond area I usually fly due south to KGGE (Georgetown) and then follow the coast all the way to Jacksonville FL. But if the weather 's good next year I'll fly to KFFA on the Outer Banks first and then on down the coast. It's less than 100 miles farther and much more scenic. Water all the way to Florida.

I've never been to KARW, but it looks pilot-friendly--a courtesy car and 1 mile to two eateries. (Any airport that close to a Barbara Jeans restaurant has to be a good stop! http://www.barbarajeans.com/locations/

Don, I didn't make it either, and I'm in SC. How bout we both plan on it next year? (I'll be driving down).

I'm starting to make Ridgeland (3J1) my home-away-from-home airport. It's another nice airport I would recommend. I've started taking soaring lessons there. It's not that far from KARW (Beaufort).

Don Maxwell - Apr 09,2013 Viewers | Reply
Mark, I've stopped at Ridgeland several times. It's a good fuel stop--but that's about all there is for a transient. But after noticing the other day that KARW has a courtesy car and is close to food and motels, it seems like a good alternative.
