I see where GoPro has their HERO3 black reduced to $329 including the wi-fi remote. Is this the GoPro of choice for all you <br />guys posting those fantastic videos? Are the flat or curved adhesive mounts that come with this package what you use or <br />will I need a different mount?

Don Maxwell - Sep 14,2013   Viewers  | Reply
I noticed that, too, Dennis. My GoPro question is whether there are lens options. Or are you stuck with whatever lens the camera comes with?

Frank A. Carr - Sep 15,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Don, I've seen no lens options, nor means of changing. But the little camera must have quite the microprocessor since there are a ton of operating modes that can be selected with just 2 buttons.<p>I also note the use of an iPhone for Bluetooth pairing to control the camera and view what it's seeing. The remote has no such viewer.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

The Hero 3 Black is pretty awesome. But for $199 at Sam's Club, Daniel and I got a Hero <br />2 that included the wifi backpack. With the backpack, I can control the camera from my <br />iphone/ipad and still get that killer HD quality that you get with the 3.

Jeff Arnold - Sep 16,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Can it be controlled with an Android? Don't have any ' i - ' things.

Frank A. Carr - Sep 16,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Jeff, the GoPro Hero 3 Black Instructions say "smart phone/tablet" ; and correcting my post above, it's linked via WiFi (built into the camera) and not Bluetooth if that matters.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Jeff, yes the GoPro can be controlled by 'i' devices OR Android devices. The app is great <br />and connects via WiFi as Frank mentioned. <br /><br />The newest GoPro video editing software is great, free, and super easy to use. The App <br />on your phone or tablet allows you to stop, start, and view video.

I sell GoPro cameras in my computer shop. I would recommend the silver as it is about 100 bucks cheaper. You can still choose 1080p or 720p and controlling the camera with the Wi-Fi is very easy once it set up. The black has a few extra video settings which you probably never use, and a remote control which I have never used. As I use the Wi-Fi application on my iPhone to control the camera and change the settings. I have two black and one silver camera and I can't tell the difference in the quality of the footage.

Thanks David. I was about to contact you about buying one until I realized you lived 'over there'.

Yesterday I noticed that our local COSTCO is carrying the Silver for $229.

WHOOHOOO!! I had a Happy Monday present waiting for me when I got home from work today. Barbara bought me a GoPro Hero 3+ silver!! It's so cool I haven't even opened the box yet. Being in the middle of a major house remodel, I have not a clue when I'll be able to try it out. But now I can video my airframe to see if I can see any thing that causes that minor 'turbulence' thing. I can't imagine ever doing the quality stuff that some of you guys do but it ought to be fun trying. Barbara wins wife of the year award again this year.

I have a Hero 3 in white, and a Hero 2. No significant difference between them at post-processing because few people look at HD video online anyway. This 5 minute video combined video from both cameras, in a variety of places including inside the cockpit with an audio cable, as well as iPhone video from land-bound friends. I use the wifi remote as I find it a bit more reliable than the iPhone app. And it means I don't drain my iPhone battery over a long flight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb7CuZIc7ew&feature=youtu.be<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     What's really nice about your GoPro, Jerry, is that it apparently records only good landings. My little old camera only seems to get bad ones.<br /><br />Hey, here's a Kerry demo video that came up when yours ended: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpWyyci1vWM&feature=youtu.be">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpWyyci1vWM&feature=youtu.be</a> The editing in it is pretty good.<br /><br />Your turn now, Dennis S.

For you guys that are on the fence on buying one of these beauties <br />and would like to get yourself a gift that you'll actually use. Best Buy <br />has an early Black Friday special for the GoPro 3 black edition with <br />remote for $250! Copy and paste the whole link below, (otherwise it <br />doesn't work for some reason). Use coupon code 'GOPRODEAL' <br />to receive black Friday pricing when checking <br />out. Let us know if it works. Sounds tempting to me but I already have <br />2.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/gopro-hd-hero3-black-edition-">http://www.bestbuy.com/site/gopro-hd-hero3-black-edition-</a><br />act%20ion-camera-black/6571689.p?<br />%20id=1218757813679&amp;skuId=6571689&amp;ref=199&amp;loc=jDfRMawUPt8<br />&amp;sit%20eID=jDfRMawUPt8-4lv_anEuyWGofCTjyYVAWg<br />

Tempting, indeed! But their price was up to $329.99 a minute ago. Free shipping, though.

Well, shoot. I should've acted faster. The site says, 'The following promotional codes have expired: goprodeal.'

Well Don, my bad landings tend to rattle my teeth and distort the video, so I usually determine the footage to be unusable. ;-)Let's put it this way - I'm occasionally glad that the 3M adhesive for the GoPro mounts is so robust.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     If you buy a GoPro you would also need a 3d printer so you can draw your own support for the camera. I <br />done some experimenting. If the support for the camera has a very small arm the vibrations will be low <br />and stable picture.

Dennis Scearce - Dec 01,2013   Viewers  | Reply
So what is the mount of choice for GoPro on a Searey? I see some pretty good reviews on the RAM mount with the short arm but the GoPro suction mount looks pretty stout also.

Frank A. Carr - Dec 01,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Dennis,Don't think there is one mount of choice. See David Geers' postings for an over the cockpit mount; and Russ Garner's postings for a starboard wing mount. Others have posted as well.<p>I've make both, tried both, and am hoping to get back to testing each. So far I'm preferring the more traditional right wing mount similar to Russ'. <p>Others solve the dilemma by having multiple GoPros.<p>Meanwhile, GoPro itself offers many, many camera mounts including one with tripod threads, adhesive mounts, probably 2-dozen or more. Many at extra cost, of course.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Dennis Scearce - Dec 01,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Yeah, I'm seeing there are a lot of options and opportunities to be creative. I've ordered a handle bar clamp, suction cup and tripod mount. Been so busy with the house remodel I haven't even opened the box!!
