I noticed Tom Yowell had a poll for Garmin combo with icom- Not sure if builders coming close to working on avionics stack noticed Garmins new GTR 200 which has com and intercom in one package for a great price for us homebuilds. I will be putting it in next month so am looking forward to the space saver and $ saver.

Funny you mention that, Kevin. I'm also leaning that way, even though it means redoing the wiring I already have in place for my PAR100EX (I already have a buyer lined up for the 100EX.) Jim Ratte did my electrical and avionics harness, it came out beautifully and was worth having it done professionally.

http://seareybuild.blogspot.com/2013/05/can-you-hear-me-now.
html

Thanks, Kevin. I ordered my GTR yesterday thru Jim Ratte, cable is being made up by Approach FastStack (also getting the radio from them) and it will plug into my Pro-X hub. Hope to have it next week sometime.

    Kevin,
I put the GTR225 in my Searey before the 200 was announced. I decided to use
the built in intercom and now wish I had used the PS Engineering PM1200. I
have to turn the intercom volume off or it will break squelch as soon as takeoff
power is applied, even with the canopy closed. Very loud and so far unusable in
flight.
Terry

That's bad to hear although I think the GTR 200 is more a clean slate electronics in spite of the similar model numbers. I talked to one of the software designers at Oshkosh and he was open to suggestions to modify the radio. I should be flying by December so will let you know how it works. You might be able to swap the 255 for the 200 if it works better. Your 225 is certified so it might be easy to sell it to a larger market. If the 200 is just as bad then we will work on Garmin to correct quickly. Hopefully

Terry I have always used the SL40. I had a problem with the intercom on one. Check your manual, I found many different hidden ways to adjust the sl40 and the problem was solved.

I found a mic gain adjustment in the hidden menus and one turn decrease fixed the problem. Works
good now.

    Smoke check good!!

(Now comes the fun of sitting down and reading the manual to figure out how it all works.)

http://seareybuild.blogspot.com/2013/10/gitr-done-200.html Attachments:

The Garmin looks great but the Skyview looks awesome!
Steve, you apparently have the same concern as I about somebody fiddling or accidentally moving the gear switch while on the ground. So I installed a "Gear Enable" switch with a red cover in series with power to the Gear Switch . But I ve had second thoughts and almost never use it, instead I leave it enabled. If I ever left my SR somewhere unattended, I believe I'd activate the switch to disable the gear power.<!-- >'">
' or > missing in user HTML.
