Can anyone comment on the Lake Ashton FL Splash-In? The next one is scheduled for this Saturday, October 19. Judging from the pictures at the referenced websites, the grass bank looks okay for beaching while the restaurant, which is in the clubhouse of the surrounding golf community, appears nicer than most splash-in locations.<P>Lake Ashton is located about six miles east of the Bartow Airport (KBOW) with the clubhouse on the north shore.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     There are plenty of good spots for nosing in but not for taxi out. You may want to bring a stake and rope <br />to hold your plane if the wind comes up. It is a very nice facility and they are very hospitable. Wear a <br />collared shirt

Collared shirt!! That's practically formal dress for a SeaReyer! Thanks, Jon, for the advice. I'll give the place a try if wind and wife are favorable Saturday.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Hopefully the wife is favorable. You dont need turbulence within the cockpit.

Lake Ashton closed and was reopened under different management. The last time I was there was with Richard Bach and at that time their dress code was non existent and they were only open three days a week lunch and dinner. I think the park slows way down in the off snow bird session. I can run over this week and check it out.

Casual dress is fine for the Lake Ashton splash in on Saturday Oct, 19. So you can wear your fevered Florida toupee.      Attachments:

Oct 19 Garner's Landing weather. You should have been here yesterday. The winds are around 7-10 kts out of the SW on Lake Arietta this morning. Not too bad but enough to make it a little work getting around.

You make a real neat video Russ!

Five seaplanes visited Lake Ashton today: two SeaReys, two Lakes and a Husky on amphib floats. As Russ' video shows (see aerial view at 1:09) this upscale golf course development has a high end clubhouse and restaurant. The residents lined up in golf carts to watch us arrive (see pix). Our group had a nice buffet lunch on the covered terrace, which included live entertainment. <P> Bill Schmaltz, the FL field director for the SPA, flew one of the Lakes. The SPA and the homeowners' association plan to make this an annual event, in part to attract seaplane visitors to the restaurant year around. <P> Eckhard and Patricia Kaliebe flew the other SeaRey. Good weather, good company and good food...a great SeaRey day.<P> <P> <img src="inline/10060-IMG_0388.jpg" alt="IMG_0388"><!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.     No gators in them there weeds?

Russ Garner - Oct 19,2013   Viewers  | Reply
Frank, I have seen some pretty good size gators in this lake and you need to fly over and take a look before you land. Like I noticed when I was there the other day, the lake is up and the water weeds have taken over the shoreline. With only about three or four spots that are used most of the time by locals like me that are weed free enough that you can get out of your Seareys and Lakes without the need for pushing through the weeds I stayed home. We have the same challenge at my place keeping the shoreline weed free. It would be nice if Ashton want's to have a fly-in that the spend a little time cleaning up the beach for the event. The float planes fair better dealing with the weeds because you can use the floats to walk on.

Bruce, that's a big picture how did you upload it?<br />

Actually I wanted to add a link to the photo to avoid the wide screen display, but couldn't figure out how to accomplish that. <P>Instead I followed the prompts on the edit page of my reply to add a file. In this case the file was the photo. Then I clicked on add file as html and what you see resulted.<P>I agree some weed policing would have made beaching easier for the later arrivals, including me. No gators in the weeds, but I was attacked by a two-inch frog :>. Turning the float plane around took five of us in the water due to the drag of the plant stem on the long float sides. I spun my SeaRey by myself.....boat hulls win!<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Bruce, if you don't check the HTML box, the photo will show as a thumbnail and a link.

Bruce, the best spot is near the pool, that spot gets enough use to keep the weeds down. I guess anyway you look at it parking in those weeds wouldn't be to good.
