Wayne,
Are you sure the resolution on the camera is set for HD?

Wayne, this is what I do. If the video needs to be edited you can use a free software package from GoPro that I don't like that well or in my case I use AVS4You, it's not free but it gives you many options. YouTube will take raw unedited GoPro MP4 files right from the SD card. I usually record in 720 30 or 60 to save room on the chip and still get a good quality HD video that loads fast. If you use software to edit the clip the way you want it, I save it in a H.264/AVC formate. Make sure to change the width to 1280 and the height to 720 the bitrate to at least 1200 to 3766 and 29,97 fps for the speed. These are AVI custom settings but they are HD settings that the GoPro uses when recording in the MP4 format. You can also save in the custom MPEG-2 with same settings. Then Upload the files to YouTube for your new file. Some video editing software will not let you save in HD that's why I use AVS4You software. You can download the complete package which includes software to work with Video, Audio, Image as well as Misc files for $59. These are just some of the file formats this software works with.
Read: HD Video (inc. Blu-ray video, AVCHD, MPEG-2 HD and WMV HD), AVI (DivX, Xvid, etc.), DV AVI, MP4 (inc. Dennis, you can find tutorials on Youtube on using the AVS video editor. I also use the AVS video recorder to copy the GoPro files from the camera or the chip to your computer file. With the recorder there is an option to go right to the AVS video editor after the you copy the GoPro video files. The AVS editor is easy to use once you have the file copied to your hdd you can start editing the video by using the Import Media function of the editor. Once the file is loaded into the editor you can drag the video file to the first line or the Timeline or Storyboard of the editor. From here you can start splitting the clip into the parts you want to keep and deleting the parts you don't need by right clicking just above the timeline this adds a point to split the video. Transitions can be add from the storyboard feature this lets one clip fade into the next clip. You can add text and video effects also. You can add a music mp3 file to your video. You can save your work as you go in a Project file. After you have the video the way you want it go to Produce to save the video. Use File option, this will take you to a menu where you can pick the type of file format you want to use. I use AVI container if it's going on YouTube. Choose the Advance option drop down profile (H264/AVC, 1200 kbps; Audio mp3 172 kbps. Use the custom video codecs to change the video settings to 1280 W, 720 H, 1298 bitrate, 29,97 fps. Leave the Audio mp3 settings. I found this on Youtube a software called Crack to unlock the full version of AVS4You trial download for free (IF YOU TRUST IT). Attachments:
