Has anyone ever experienced carb icing with the Rotax 912S?

Who and where can you have a cowling built for the Searey? Thanks for you help..Eric

Eric, why would you want a cowling? It sheds pieces that damage the prop. (someone posted that experience on this site). It makes pre-flight inspections harder / less complete. And I have never heard anyone brag that a cowling improved cooling or allowed additional airspeed. So......why would you want one??

Eric, there is a fairly detailed discussion on carb icing in the Tips over on the STS site. (Tips - Carburetor)

ok. Thanks for the advice. I know there that there is more time needed for pre-flight. But, what about safety from pieces that may come off during flight? What about if you get caught in some rain and you carb filter become saturated and flood the engine? Wouldn't a cowling cover help in this situation?

Eric, you must have some pretty amazing rain down there! Short of making like a submarine I think rain can only improve performance (water injection!)

Eric, I think you should properly introduce yourself to these guys. I don't know if you remember me but I talked to you years ago when I was a student pilot in Tennessee and first got interested in SeaReys. At the time, you were the closest dealer and I appreciate all the info and excitement regarding SeaReys that you sent my way.

I ended-up in New England and hooked-up with Eric Dixon in CT. This being my first homebuilt (or plane of any sort), I needed the dealer to be as close as possible.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks and I'm glad to see you're still rockin on.

I have not, but I was speaking to a gent last week who did. He did a safe dead-engine landing on a road in New England a couple of weeks ago. Waited for it to thaw and with the cops blocking the road, took off and flew to a nearby airport. I won't mention his name but will encourage him to come to this site and reply. -Ken Leonard

Hay guys, Thanks for your reply. Bret, glad to hear you are up and flying! No problem on getting you the info.
Kenneth, I know who you are talking about. I sold him my plane. He is one hell of a pilot! I am in Baltimore, Md and he is in Clearwater, FL. I am not connected on allllll the great stuff you guys are doing down there in Florida. Please help him when you see him again. ie. splash-in, tech stuff ect... Really appreciate it! Does any one know who has a searey for sale? Have 3 people looking for a 100-250hrs plane in great shape. My email address is seaplaneflyer@aol.com Thanks for your leads.

Eric, Actually, he loaned me his hanger (it was a windy day) while I was taking the wings off my searey so I could truck it to my house for a rebuild. My wings are still in his hanger. He is a great guy. -Ken
