Hey Bret, since you need experience at runway building, I am now extending the north south runway by 250 ft. Have cut 34 trees so far and have about 10 more to go. Dozer will be here next week to clear stumps so you can get all the experience you need by grading and preparing the soil for grass seed. Have absolutely worn myself out last couple days using that chainsaw.

    Ah, I like it!

You'll be glad you did it Charlie and the extra room just means more beer we can carry when we stop by for an overnight! I'm coming downsouth in November. Who's knows maybe I'll be able to pay you a visit.

Gees Charlie, I know how you feel. I'm doing the same thing, cutting trees and pulling stumps. I got 39 more to go. How are you doing on your plane? Get any painting done?

Steve G, I start spraying polybrush tomorrow. Borrowed a HVLP from a fellow aviator today in Knoxville. Also working on inst panel. Took about 3 weeks to get my EIS from A C. Don`t know when if ever we will get an engine. Have you heard anything from P A about the engines? Would really like to set engine and accesories before installing wings. How much runway will you have when finished?

Charlie, I haven't heard or called PA about the engines either, things have been moving slower than anticipated ( building wise) so I'm not in a real big hurry right now.
As far as the runway goes, I have a sort of a dilemma. I have the south end of my pond in the way of my runway, when I get that fixed, I'll have approx. 1500' long x 50' to 200' wide and it runs east and west. The narrowest part will be at the pond which lies almost dead center. I wonder how fast I can get the gear to retract and extend?
Are you going to use Polytone or Areothane for your color coats? I'm using an HVLP system also, works great. Good luck with the painting, it's alot of work.

Steve G My thinking right now is to use polytone. GADS, how much of a bank or drop off do you have where the pond meets the runway. How far do you live from Bristol Va.? If we don`t hurry up and get grass planted it will be too late. Will have to wait till spring.

Charlie, I know grass is out of the question for me this year, too much work left to do. My priority is still working on the plane and fill in with the work outside. Not to metion all the other day to day stuff.
The drop off to the ponds varies with the time of the year, in the spring this year it was right to the top, this summer it's down about four feet and it's about 18' deep. It's been pretty dry up here this summer.
I'm not sure where Bristol, Va. is, but if you pull out your handy Michigan map, (your hand) I'm right about where you thumb and index finger come together. Saginaw is the nearest large city.

Sorry Steve, I must have you mixed up with someone else. Do we not have a kit builder in South west Va not far from Bristol Va. I had intentions of spray painting on the plane this past week but go involved in extending the runway. Most likely won`t get to work on it this next week either, trying to get the grass seed in the ground. I now have 211 hours on the plane.

Charlie, any chance to see some pictures of your runway extension? Send some regular pics to me snail mail and I'll scan and post them on here. I can't wait to land Streaker at your place during the Choo Choo flyin...

oh gosh... I guess we should get back to work on planning that. I must admit though, I am very tempted to do the Canada Gaggle while I'm still living in New England. The Cape Cod boys and I were talking about it the other day. I know the wife would love to go on that ride. I guess I have to figure out how to get time off for both...

When is the Chatanooga Choo Choo-in?

Bret, the extension is 250 ft, It is where you first come onto my property at the TAILDRAGGERS sign. I had to cut about 60 trees, a dozer grubbed out the stumps and I was busy dragging and filling the low place when the rain caught up with me 3 days ago. Will probably not get grass on it untill spring. Also filled some low places on existing parts of runway that might cause a bounce. The extension is on the strip that goes out toward the lake. Will extend the other runway in the spring, just need to clear stumps there. Trees were cut about 5 years ago. DAMN this is a lot of work, need to get my ass back to work on the plane. Now have my instruments set. Just waiting for the engine, BE PATIENT MY WIFE SAYS, be patient my ass, I`m going to raise hell if something don`t happen soon, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH GOOD THAT WILL DO, HEHHHEHEHE Maybe we need to sick FRANK on them.

Hey James, we don't know for sure when the Choo Choo flyin will be. Charlie Huskey and I are working on the 1st Annual peciled in for 2005. We'll let everyone know the details and ideas as we progress.
