Hello fellow pilots. My name is Lynx Vanasse and I live up in NW Washington state. I joined ths Searey club site to gain some more information about this great aircraft. After talking with Charlie at the Northwest Sport Aviation (NWSA) club, I have decided to build a Searey. I have all kinds of questions but I suppose I should space them out some. First I was wondering about Searey operations in the saltwater. Up here in the northwest, we have a few lakes, but many of the great outdoor destinations are islands or beaches on Puget Sound. Does the Searey come fairly equipped for saltwater operations? I'm sure I will need to get some parts coated to prep for saltwater ops. Also, the nearest Searey training site for me is in Surrey, BC. Does anybody know about the relevance that Canadian training has on obtaining US FAA ratings and endorsments.

The site is great, I've enjoyed looking at all the photos and look forward to being a part of the Searey community.

Welcome Lynx, I think you'll find the folks here very helpful with suggestions for yoru building problems and ideas. I'm building (still) with the fuselage basically completed less panel, I've assembled the wings and flight control surfaces, and am presently covering the left wing. Is been fun, but it's taking a lot longer than I anticipated (but then I took 1.5 years 'off' to have a new house built). Frank in Ft. Myers, Fl.

Lynx; welcome to the group! I'm still building (rebuilding) and this site has been the most valuable resource I have had, bar none. Our Aussie friends land in salt so they might have advice for that. You also might check out the tips files on the tech site for Salt water preperation. If we don't have a category for that, we should start one. -Ken (Tampa)

What url for the tech site? Is there special requirements to join or is it similar to this site? Thanks for the replies. The internet is a wonderful thing.

Yo, Lynx... Welcome to the family... You'll just love your searey.. I've been flying mine for 1 1/2 years now. half the year I keep it in Kentucky and the other half in Florida. As my hillbilly friends might say... 'It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on and your teeth in'.
As for the Salt water thing, I had my searey in Pine Island Fl. near Ft Meyers last winter.. 04.. and it did pick up some pitting and corrosion, but landing in the Gulf of Mexico at 'Cabbage Key' (Jimmy Buffett wrote Cheezeburger in Paradise there) and other salty landing were well worth the sacrifice. Just rince it well and get some 'Boshield' from PA or a local supplier and keep everything lubed with WD 40. Call me if you want to talk 859-384-7712
