Mark, thought I should post this here too as in STS.

Here is an email response from Norm Gorn to me in regards to the SeaRey simulator we all eagerly await so you guys know what this graphics designer is running into with his software. He's still trying, John D. here's your chance to be the pilot in the SeaRey he's done as you have seen in my previous posts in the past year.

Norms email ngorn@look.ca for anyone that would like to give him some moral support.
Let him know we applaud his efforts to continue, being a Dutchman I like the sound of Freeware

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3/1/2006
Hi Frank,
Man, I'm having the worst time getting the Searey published. The company I was working with has, after a long period of stalling around, finally decided to fold. This stalling period left me guessing and hanging for pretty well a whole year before I finally knew where I'm at.
That means I'm finally cleared to look for another publisher. I found a company in Germany that is interested in checking my Searey out. So, if they like it and think it's marketable, It looks like we're finally ready to release it.
I just hope this time it will work out. We've let the 'fans' hanging long enough.

I hope everything is going well with you and the Brampton RAA. If the new publisher is willing to work with me, I will have to come down to Brampton Airport to take pictures of your Searey. I want to be sure to include your aircraft in the set!

Norm
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5/1/2006
Hi Frank,
Thank you for the reply. I've got bad news and good news. The bad news concerns only me, namely that as computer technology keeps progressing at an alarming rate, the Searey, the way I started making it, does no longer measure up to the criteria for high-brow add-on publishers.
The good news is, that I see no other way to get the Searey out than by releasing it as freeware. :-)

So, at this point - all I need now is to find someone who can make me an 'airfile' for it, the code that determines how the virtual model handles.

So hang in tight guys, she's already in the pattern for arrival. If you want you can also spread the word that I will also make personalized exterior graphics of individual Searey owners in the area in exchange for a ride on their aircraft in a, let's say, 250 km radius from here (negotiable...). This also includes putting their face on the pilot.

Chat soon
Norm

<img src='/isapi.dll/c/contentinline/1/f/link/threadid/gOTXBQ/fiberid/4/~/update_23.jpg' alt='update#23'>

<img src='/isapi.dll/c/contentinline/1/f/link/threadid/gOTXBQ/fiberid/5/~/x61a.jpg' alt='x61a'> Attachments:

    Thanks Frank, same here...

He will take the moral support, but he needs help with the 'airfile' (the Flight Model, or FM), that dictates how the model 'feels' in the sim. Norm does not fly a Searey, so he needs someone familiar with the Searey's handling characteristics to finish this project. We don't get it until he gets this help. I would try, except my Stingray, which is shorter than a Searey, has smaller tail surfaces and narrower ailerons and flaps, does handle a bit different than the Searey I got dual time in with Kerry while I was down in Florida (and that was only 20 hours). If there is anyone with sim experience and can help Norm with this, please contact him.

FYI, there may not be a huge need to rush this out, the MS Flight Sim version 10 (FSX) won't be available until 'the holiday season of '06', per MicroSoft. Considering thier record, that may really mean early '07. However, I will definetly be buying it and would love a copy of the Searey add-on.

Ken - the Searey model Norm has been working on is for FS9 (2004). Since it could be more than a year before FSX comes out, I don't want to wait that long before it's finished (we've been waiting long enough now). From what I read, FSX will be backward compatible for FS9 models, and hopefully Norm won't scratch the whole thing and start over for the new sim. If he does that with each MS release, we'll never see it.
