Hi there

We are planning to fly to Canada and to stay for 2 month. Do we would need a third party liability insurance or not? If yes, what insurance company would insure our searey?
And what would be the premium for a 100,000 USD coverage? Can anybody help us?

Peter & Paula
Yes Peter, you are required to have liability insurance in Canada but you probably won't be asked for it at the border. I would try Marsh but I really don't know what is available Stateside..

Like John say,s liability insurance is mandatory in Canada but your present insurance probably covers you in Canada also. Our insurance covers us in the US. Check it out. Are still planning to cross the border in the Vancouver area?

Peter, I just needed evidence of US insurance when entering Canada last summer.

Don. What insurance company are you using?

Yes Fred. It's our target to visit and stay with you. Currently we are in Oregon on the way to you. However, we dont have any insurance and have no clue what company would do it. Do you have a name and address of one? Would be a pitty if we couldnt cross the border to meet and have fun.

Last year when I went to the gaggle I had purchased liability only from Falcon Insurance. 830-257-1000 I crossed into Canada at Pele island near Sandusky Ohio. All they asked for was Passports for my 12 year old son and I.

Hey Bob T., stop using my S&D sign in ID!

John. How much premium did you paid? Could you check with yr insurance what it would cost for a liability of 100'000 USD only and for a limited periode of 2 month?

Don Maxwell - Jun 04,2006 Viewers | Reply
Peter, liability and medical insurance should be less than $1000 a year in the US. In-motion hull coverage, on the other hand, is quite expensive, and I think that most SeaRey builders don't have it.

Peter, my Marsh insurance is available as part of my COPA membership. It costs Can$398 (about US$362) per year for Can$500,000 Bodily Injury (including passengers) and Property Damage. I am sure AOPA or EAA must offer something similar. Marsh does not offer short period insurance but a COPA member could insure from July to the end of the year for Can$236..

Peter, my insurance agent suggest that you should get your insurance in the US as you are flying an US registred airplane. It would be very difficult to get an Canadian company to insure a foreign aircraft and pilot.

Thanks Fred. So far we couldnt find yet an US insurance with a reasonable premium for a just 2 month stay in Canada. We hope that our target to visit and stay with you will not fail.
