Aviation History was made at Downsview Ontario when Dr. James Delaurier's amateur-built ornithopter made a successful 14 second flight, piloted by Jack Sanderson. Now that was amazing, Frank! The only thing more amazing is that Transport Canada approved the contraption but has stonewalled you and your SeaRey.

Reading the articles and looking at the site it is not totally clear how this thing is powered. According to the site it has a small rocket engine to get it up to speed but that stops before the actual flying. Does that mean that the sole power during flight is human? Are the wings helped by forward motion so that part of the flight is using energy resulting from the rocket and it gradually slows until there is not enough energy from manpower to sustain flight?

If it is manpowered it is indeed a very significant event but one can not tell if, in our world with such easy access to internal combustion power, it will just be another dead end, however worthy in itself.

They did a presentation at our local RAA chapter, odd but they said it was a 27 hp gas engine if my memory serves me, no manpower here.

Dan & CJV, why is it when anyone mentions TC my blood pressure peeks.
For you guys that are unaware 2 of us in Canada had our registrations pulled because someone ratted out that the SeaRey is a bit on the heavy side to be in the Advanced Ultralight category, even though it was on the official Advanced Ultralight list on TC web site and Bill and I called TC to confirm we could fly these as AULA’s.
They told us no problem, it’s on the official Advance Ultralight list.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The update on my case is I have a meeting with TC on July 14th 10am.
I did all the requested mod’s for Bill Watkin’s and his SeaRey, it was inspected and passed a week ago as a amateur built aircraft (experimental in USA).
Get this we are both in the same boat to say, they charged Bill something like 240.00 to do the inspection.
They told me to get my aircraft inspected by the MD-RA, the Canadian organization empowered by TC to do this function as well. http://www.md-ra.com/
My cost…. A bit over 800.00 Think TC is pissed at me for going to my Minister of Parliament and then the Transport Minister? Well this enraged me to threaten them with legal action.
They do seem to be seeing things my way now. LoL
I’ll write up the whole nightmare and post it here some time.
Title should be 4 Years in SeaRey Hell and TC

X your fingers for me, you just have to love the registration I got for my SeaRey C-FEUD.

This month I start building a Highlander and a Escalade, I’ll be having more interaction with these guys and more horror stories I’m sure.
Yes Dan, but it seems to have taken about 30 years to get its Canada Transport approval, Seems like Frank might be in for a long hard grind there.
