Hi Gang:

Several of you have emailed me enquiring as to whether I will be bringing the A-24 to Oshkosh. Unless weather precludes the trip, I will be flying it to Oshkosh where it will be based for the entire week. It will be at the airport in the display area for most of that time but I will also fly it over to the seaplane base for a day or two. If you will be attending Oshkosh, and have an interest in examining this new arrival, I look forward to seeing you there.

This will be the first public display of the aircraft since its arrival in North America many months ago. During this period, I have flown it a great deal and provided the factory with feedback with respect to 'bugs' that have shown up (very few) and changes that need to be made (even fewer) to adapt it to the North American environment. Every new aircraft requires a 'shakedown period' and the A-24 is no exception. I have to say that it has proven to be a very reliable and robust aircraft that has exceeded my performance expectations.

What problems have shown up?
- The mechanical advantage provided by the brake pedals is inadequate. This will be changed in all new kits.
- The method used to fasten the acrylic windshield to the airframe proved inadequate. Standard industry practice is to drill over-sized holes at each fastener location, which allows plastic spacers to be installed (which relieve expansion-contraction stresses). This was not done on my A-24 and some 'edge cracking' occurred. This procedure will be utilized on all future kits.
- The experimental water rudder located beneath the aft hull 'seemed like a good idea at the time' but in practice can be snagged when coming ashore. It will be reincarnated in its previous form (a hydrodynamically-shaped 'wheel pant' fitted to the tail wheel) which had been both effective and 'bullet-proof'.
- The prop and throttle controls will be re-located to conform to North American standards.

All new A-24s are currently shipping with a newly-designed carb air scoop and carb air box. This will be retro-fitted to my A-24 as it is an excellent improvement. The company has also created a new cabin ceiling moulding that improves cabin cosmetics and reduces cockpit noise even further. This too will be retrofitted to my A-24 this fall.

Best,
Larry

Great improvements on an already nice plane. What are you going to set the 2008 price at Larry? Good luckat OSH.

    Hi Dave:

I am not certain as to exactly what the price will be but it will likely be in the CDN $95,000 to CDN $100,000. That includes the 912-S engine, the variable pitch prop, and all options except the avionics.

Best,
Larry

Larry, are you planning on having it at the Greenville (Maine) Seaplane Fly-In?

http://www.seaplanefly-in.org/general_information.htm

You really should consider it if you haven't. This is a huge seaplane event held every year.

    Hi Mark:

Sorry for the delayed reply. I have been away for a week and just got back. I left last Sunday and completed a delightful tour of Ontario's magnificant 'lake country' in my A-24. It was a blast. Beautiful weather and I landed in more gorgeous lakes than I could keep track of. (g)

I would like to go to Greenville but it is not going to work this year as I have already made other comitments for that period of time. Hopefully next year.

Best,
Larry
