Hi all:

Just back from Oshkosh. It was a blast.

The flight to Oshkosh consumed just under 7 hours (heavy north west winds) but was enjoyable in spite of the heavy turbulence. It did require two crosswind landings (50 degrees off the nose) in winds of 20-25 knots.
I crossed Lake Michigan in company with a Cessna 150. Have to admit that having company took my mind off the 4-6 foot waves clearly visible below.

The only part of the inbound trip that was 'adrenalin producing' occurred when a Navaho decided to cut in front of me just before I turned base at Oshkosh. Delightfully, the controller chewed him out for not following the prescribed arrival procedure. A close call.

Once on the ground, my A-24 was escorted to a nifty tie-down right in front of the main flight line entry. For the rest of the week, the A-24 was the centre of attention and received a great deal of positive commentary.

I had considered making a trip to the seaplane base but following a visit via car, I decided against, as while I was there, visitors were few and far between. As well, the water conditions in the sea plane base were poor. Algae bloom was heavy and the water was polluted (floating garbage). Haven't seen this in the past and it was very worrisome.

I flew out Sunday (just before the air show), and headed northeast up Green Bay. My destination was 'Schoolcraft', a lovely airport located on the north shore of Lake Michigan. Just under two hours later, I arrived and set up the tent.

Next morning, I headed out at 7:00 am. Conditions were perfect and it took just under 2 hours to reach Port Huron. A short stop for fuel, flight planning and customs notification required less than 30 minutes before the A-24 headed for Canada. The trip home from Oshkosh required about 6 hours in total.

If you have never been to Oshkosh, you are missing a truly memorable event.

Best,
Larry
