Ok,
So my recently aquired Searey is almost ready to fly again, and a thought hit me...
The Searey is half boat, and isn't it bad luck or something for a boat to be nameless??

Do you all have names for your 'Reys?
If so, where do you put it, its not like there is a broad stern to put a name across.

Tony G.

    Tony,
Mine is called 'Second Chance', choosen for a couple reasons: My wife's maiden name is Chance, and, I've
installed a BRS. I have installed a small Placard on the Panel, and will have the name painted or lettered
below the cockpit canopy. Don't plan to add a 'Hailing Port' tho, so the boat thing stops there.

It's a Searey, it's unique, it's different and no two are the same (that I've seen). I think every Searey should have a name that reflects the owner's personality, but where do you put it?

This is what my VS and rudder will look like. Seemed to be a pretty good place to put the Tiki logo. The Tiki logo, c'mon focus man. The hot chick is just so I can be cool like Lima is.

I like the name 'Tiki', but no doubt my all time favorite Searey name is Streaker. I read my first Searey story about an adventure they took in Streaker, some weekend date that they took up in CT or NH area, and it showed a photo of this Searey with these black stripes on white, what a nice plane! That story was so inspiring for me and the name stuck in my head for years. I couldn't remember who or where or when, but I can tell you all about this airplane named Streaker. To answer your question, that, my friend, is What's In A Name. They will remember you and you will inspire them.
Mine is 'Take II', because it is, literally.

Well, I guess my question is answered!
I am not superstitious about too many things, but I always put my left shoe on first, and ALWAYS put my right glove on first. I don't know why, it kept me alive doing stupid things on sportbikes for years, so I don't challenge it. On the other hand, I'll walk under a ladder just for fun and could care less if I spill some salt.
Back on that first other hand... My last plane had this horrible little bird ornament made out of straw or something attached inside the cockpit. The seller told me it was his good luck charm in the plane. I left it there. The terrible chicken thingy flew every hour with me. I passed it on to the next owner when I sold the plane. It's sad that I do not have a picture of it, other then a brief glimpse during a in-cockpit video.

As for the name of my Searey... I was tossing around some names like B.U.B.B.A., for Butt Ugly But Becomes Airborne, and a few others like that, but my wife wasn't particularly fond of any derogatory names for our plane.

I think we are settling on 'my (or maybe 'our') little deuce goose'.

Jeff Arnold - Oct 20,2007 Viewers | Reply
Tony, I like 'Deuce Goose'. Its cute. Cheryl is right about the derogatory names. Especially with the Searey because it is such a fun toy. A derogatory name does not belong with a Searey.

Steve DiGiacomo - Oct 20,2007 Viewers | Reply
Tony, another thing that doesn't really fit on a Searey is a race car paint job, so please don't slick out your Little Deuce Goose with any red flames or racing stripes. But that's just one opinion. Here are the lyrics that go with your Searey:

'Well I'm not braggin babe so don't put me down
But I've got the (wettest) set of wheels in town
When something comes up to me he dont even try
Cause I (have) a set of wings, man, (and) I know she (will) fly
Shes my little deuce goose You dont know what I got'

'She'll do a hundred and forty (KPH) with the top end floored'

'She's got a (slipper) clutch and a (nine one four)
And she purrs like a kitten till the (aussie) pipes roar'

'And comin off the line when the light turns green
Well she blows em (off) the water like you never seen
I get pushed out of shape and its hard to steer
When I (land on my lake without retracting my gear)
Shes my little deuce goose You dont know what I got'

(Ok, I'm really bored.)
Mine will be called 'Spirit of the Storm'. You will have to read Tom Sawyer again to understand! ;-)

Welcome to the Seaplane Pirates' Association!

Steve DiGiacomo - Nov 09,2007 Viewers | Reply
Wow, Grant, that name is awesome. I looked it up and I'm blown away. May I?

'But no, there was something gaudier even than this. He would be a pirate! That was it! Now his future lay plain before him, and glowing with unimaginable splendor. How his name would fill the world, and make people shudder! How gloriously he would go plowing the dancing seas, in his long, low, black-hulled racer, the Spirit of the Storm, with his grisly flag flying at the fore! And at the zenith of his fame, how he would suddenly appear at the old village and stalk into church, brown and weather-beaten, in his black velvet doublet and trunks, his great jack-boots, his crimson sash, his belt bristling with horse-pistols, his crime-rusted cutlass at his side, his slouch hat with waving plumes, his black flag unfurled, with the skull and crossbones on it, and hear with swelling ecstasy the whisperings, 'It's Tom Sawyer the Pirate! -- the Black Avenger of the Spanish Main!'

Wow, very nice! Grant, you have style man. How does one acquire a 'crime-rusted cutlass' or is that something that is earned? And try to keep your 'waving plumes' out of the prop.
Grant Pronishen - Nov 09,2007 Viewers | Reply
    Hi Steve,
Thanks for the kind words, but alas, I fear with each rising sun as I view the rate of progress on 'ole Spirit', I also observe that the slouch hat with waving plumes may be required to cover an ever increasing glowing orb! As for the trusty cutlass, query me not and I shall not be compelled to utter an untruth.

Steve DiGiacomo - Nov 09,2007 Viewers | Reply
Grant, Fear not o builder of the Pirate-Rey, some things to remember:
1. ATC has little appreciation for the use of 'Aargh matey!'
2. Pusher props predictably pluck prodigious plumes.
3. Peglegs require rudder blocks.
