I'm glad the B model has a turboprop instead of a Rotax 914. Competition in a free market usually drives prices down.

I have to admit that that's some good piloting, especially for being in an airconditioned trailer, instead of up in the aircraft. Just look at how he landed smoothly and got it right on the centerline. The visibility is very good from his trailer, too. And that's somewhat comforting to me--considering that there's a lot of UAV testing going on around Patuxant Naval Air Station, which is not far from where I often fly.

Don - the visibility from the aircraft for seeing traffic sucks, particularly when the operators have nothing to loose and are on a 12 hour shift, oh and flying multiple planes at the same time - after all they are only a platform for the sensor operators. There will be collisions, it's only a matter of time and the government won't take responsibility for it, they will simply shut down airways.<br />I've been in the control booths when they were flying missions and while it's all nifty technology, these things should be painted florescent orange and have strobes all over them for flying in the US. As for lowering prices through competition, this isn't 'free' competition and the USAF was paying $80,000 each for the 914 engines. What do you think they are paying for the turboprop? Plus, the 914 got infinitely better fuel economy. This is not an upgrade for the aircraft, it is an upgrade for the profit margin of the military industrial complex. Oh, and please notice that it has: 'laser designation and laser illumination, and rapid strike capabilities' and is designed for use in US airspace. Think about that. It means that we intend to fire laser guided munitions from this thing inside US territory. (Not like I have a strong opinion on the subject or anything...)
