Hey Frank! Did you get to go there? I stayed this past summer in Sannibel and Captiva and wondered about doing some flying 'round those parts. I think that's the same area isn't it? Rumour has it, that's the bay where JB wrote Cheese Burger in Paradise after the restaurant that is in the middle just east of the Cayo Costa. Would love to hear some stories about the flying in SW FL.

Funny you should ask John, I've been waiting for the last several days to fly there from my home field of Page (FMY) but fog, or low ceilings, or winds have each conspired to postpone the flight. Ken Leonard was there a few weeks ago and landed in a small tidal pond. Landing at the Upper Captiva turf strip requires permission which I certainly was unable to obtain. There's always the Gulf (with it's salt) and Fort Myers in the Caloosahatchee River between the Bridges is a "designated seaplane operation area"--along with boats, fish/crab pots, daybeacons, and Manatees.I thought but am not sure that Buffett wrote the song at the little funky Island called Cabbage Key (http://www.cabbagekey.com/recreation/index.php#dining) which is due West of Useppa Island where the CIA trained for the Bay of Pigs. Wikapedia alas claims that Cheese Burger in Paradise was inspired by a Caribbean trip taken by JB.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML.
