The other day I noticed a hole on the top of my right wing. On closer inspection, there was also one below the wing. A police
officer confirmed, by phone only and without personal inspection, that he believes it was likely a 9mm bullet hole. I do not know
exactly when or where this happened but the plane has not been out of the north Orlando/Sanford area. Anybody else ever had
this experience?
Pretty good shot to hit a moving plane!

Our planes aren't that fast, and wouldn't be that hard to hit, especially if the guy knew how to make a deflection shot (shooting ahead of the moving target). Maybe David flew over a skeet range.

I had a hose clamp go thru the prop during flight in my old Aventura, and what was left of the clamp went forward and thru the bottom of the wing, but didn't make it thru the top. I would have thought that something going thru the prop would have been spit out the back, but it hit the clamp like a golf club hitting a ball and it went foward hard enough to go thru the bottom of the wing. You may want to check your prop for any new dings. However bullet holes are possible, you never know when some crazy hunter will tell his buddy, Hey Watch This, and take a shot. I try to avoid flying low over known hunting areas during hunting season.

That is why I changed out my C hull for the new titanium hull - a la A-10 Warthog.
Dave - don't know how good a shot he was until you know how many were fired?

David, do you habitually fly over any one area? You may have without realizing, and ticked off someone possibly growing a certain illegal leafy plant.

Also, you should do a careful inspection inside the wing, to make sure the bullet didn't hit anything.

You should check your ex-wife's alibi for those flying days!

I saw Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies hit a clay pigeon with a .22 rim fire rifle...while looking at a mirror....over the shoulder.....blindfolded!

Fortunately, I don't have an ex-wife. Maybe I need to worry about the current one!

I, and two others, have looked in the inspection access and it looks fine. Thanks for the thought.

It's happened a couple of times up here in the Carolinas, but not to me. One went through the bottom of the fuselage and out the top of my friends J-3. Would have been bad news if the shooter had led the plane by another few feet. It's duck hunting season on Lake Norman. I don't hang around the duck blinds. It's just too tempting for some of these red necks.

Whoa. Can you imagine the temptation if some poor unsuspecting UL pilot came buzzing by?

Dave.. that must have been one great description of the bullet hole, there are quite a few bullets close to a 9mm round, like a .38 special, 357 magnum or even a 30-30 or 30-06 rifle rounds, it's not likely it came from a gun range, my money is on a jealous husband.

It was probably officer Bill Frist diagnosing the bullet hole.
