This could happen to one of us on maybe a park lake. Does anyone have an experience like this?<br /><br /><br />      Attachments:

I saw this on the local news a few days ago. Also the burger place named a burger after them and is taking a collection to help them with the fine. I don't think the law of not landing on this lake is published anywhere. How were the pilots supposed to know about this park law?

SPA water landing directory:<br /><br />'Seaplane ops not permitted on public waters in Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin (contains lake in question) ...counties unless otherwise noted. ' <br /><br />If they don't allow seaplanes, it's a pretty good assumption they don't want ski/land planes either.

True, but unfortunately that is no defense. The SPA guide does provide the phone # of the Minnesota Aeronautics Office.

in my opinion, they cant prove they broke any specific law. they could be the rosa parks of the aviation community ;-)

I know that Turkey Lake park in Orlando, FL is under a similar and vague veil through a city ordinance. There is no way for pilots like us to readily find this out except through SPA water landing directory or Notam issuance. It's vitally important that we all share our local knowledge with people like SPA to prevent this kind of Governmental abuse. Cops and other Law Enforcement doing their jobs and look for chances to go from 0 to Hero. The FAA is the same way. And don't forget the ramp check they got right there and then, complete with, 'License, Registration and where's the Weight and Balance documented solution you have for this flight?'<br />Can you know before you go? Maybe...better be prepared for this kind of treatment anytime you land out. It's usually no big deal, ex: TikiBar1 arrival with the Lake Apopka transition...normal, everyday operations. Then, sometimes it turns out like this.

I think the cops should have just given them a warning. The word would have gotten around quickly about landing on that lake.
