New Member. Hi I was invited to the site by Tom Binsfeld of California. I live in San Diego and have built two experimentals over time. I am now looking to buy a Sea Rey. I have followed this aircraft years and really like it. I would love to hear any input from the members here either positive or negative. The group dynamics are impressive. I have posted my Genesis on floats that I built just for anyone who likes this kind of stuff.

    Joel,
Welcome to the group. This site is a fun site to be a part of and a great place to share our stories about our seaplane adventures but you will have a hard time finding a non bias view of the Searey because about 99 percent of the people on this site own one and they love them.

The best thing to do is visit the Progressive Aerodine in Florida and get a demo ride. Or if you know someone locally that can give you a ride.

Both flying boat types and planes on floats have their pluses and minuses.
I like flying boats better except the docking. Planes like the Searey are designed to be on the water and they make better land planes than a plane with amphibious floats (I think).

You mentioned useful load. Our planes will due much better than what you have.

My Aventura II has a 600lb useful load.

Anyways,
My 2 cents,

Matt
Matt
Yes I agree. I sold my Genesis a couple of years ago and have been planeless since. I also built a boat plane in the early 1990's but it had inherent design flaws and I gave it up. I have been following the Sea Rey for years and have decided that it is the way to go for me. After 2 experimentals and 7 years of building I just want to fly again and get out of the shop. So I will either buy one out there on the market or have one built by Sea Rey under the LSA program. Anyways, thanks for the reply. It seems that this group is very together.
Joel

    Joel
I own S/N002 of the Searey and really love it. I'm in the process of recovering it now but hope to be flying again soon. If you are looking for a flying Searey I'm selling one with a 914. Check out Barnstormers and my blog at seareyman.blogspot.com

Thanks Ollie. Though we live in downtown San Diego CA, I will be locating the Sea Rey (when I find the right one) up in the Lake Tahoe area Nevada side and the 914 may more desirable due to altitude considerations. Please contact me directly if you are interested in selling yours. I will follow up on Barnstormers however.

Welcome Joel... you have found the right group, we have a large group of Seareyers
flying this aircraft literally all over the world, from the U.S. to Australia, and I believe an
aircraft in China.
