I'm not into radio controlled stuff. Nor was I at all interested in watching a 10 minute video. But the guy who sent this to me promised I'd watch the whole thing and go back for more. He was right. The military and privacy implications are obvious. What's really cool is that this could truly be had by just about anyone with a job. ($1500 US)
http://mikrokopter.de/ucwiki/VideoAbspielen?id=188

The endurance, lift, self-stabilization and GPS control are each amazing on their own.

Zowie! That's really cool.

I've just watched most of most of the other videos of it. If you want to brush up your deutsch, there's this lecture-demo he gave at a university (in Hamburg, ich denke): http://vimeo.com/4381833 It has diagrams and close-up photos of the mechanism. He's using 12-pole brushless motors. It also has clips from most of the other videos, showing load tests, doing loops, videos of flying over various towns and buildings, etc.

A fascinating one is this indoor barometric stability test, apparently inside his house: http://vimeo.com/2716119
