The Looming Threat Of Terrorists
In Small Aircraft And Cars
By Dave Lindorff
2-19-10

The deliberate suicide crash bombing by a domestic terrorist pilot of a small plane into an IRS building in Austin, Texas has exposed a grave failure of the Homeland Security Department to protect us Americans from the threat posed by the virtually unregulated use in this country of small aircraft.
Just about anyone can own and fly a small plane, and these, as we have now seen, are readily adaptable into kamikazi missiles capable of destroying large buildings.
If Homeland Security won't act, then it is up to Congress to move quickly to tighten up security and control over small planes. We need to insist that anyone seeking a pilot's license first submit to a full screening by the FBI. No one with a criminal record of any kind should be permited to fly or ride in a small plane. The same should be true with regard to all foreigners. Since it's not possible to do a full check of the background of persons from other countries, only US citizens should be able to obtain and fly small aircraft within US airspace.
All civil air pilots and their passengers should be required to pass through meal detectors before entering an airfield. We don't want them carrying hand grenades or other weapons onto their planes. Planes should also be subject to full searches by specially trained government inspectors before takeoff to be sure they have not been packed with explosives.
But that's not enough. We should ban all small aircraft from flying within a mile of any urban areas, and the military should be given authority to take down any plane that violates that rule. The Airforce should be ordered to have fighters, armed with loaded machine guns, in the air at all times, ready to be called into action if a small plane appears to be on a threatening flight path.
America cannot lower its guard...
For the rest of this story, please go to:
http://www.thiscantbehappening.net
This guy is a crackpot. You left out the funniest paragraph:

'Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not in favor of going overboard here. I’m certainly not suggesting that we start doing something draconian or unconstitutional like limiting gun sales, or preventing people from buying machine guns, bazookas, mobile rocket launchers or anything like that. That would be downright unAmerican. But we do need to crack down on the ability of terrorists, foreign or domestic, to get ahold of moving vehicles--airborne or ground-based--which in the wrong hands could be used to threaten Americans with mayhem.'

Nice chuckle over my coffee. Thanks Paul.

    Mr. Lin'DORK' is an ' IDIOT '.

Why do I think he is a relative of QUEEN Nancy, HORRIBLE Harry and Supreme
commander OBONEHEAD.
Anybody who wants to kill people, knows that all they have to do is go to the local
seed and feed place and buy 100 lbs of pure nitrogen fertilizer and stop at your local
fuel oil dealer and buy 20 gal. of kerosene and VOILA ........ you got yourself a
very devastating bomb ........ ask Timothy McVey ......oops he is not here any more.
Fact is, more people die each year from drowning ....... so I think the government
should register and distribute swim suits .......sooooo, what do we do about knives,
baseball bats, pitch forks,no.2 shovels, rope, car batteries ........the list goes on and on.

'All civil air pilots and their passengers should be required to pass through meal detectors before entering an airfield.'
That's so funny............ even if it's a misprint! I'll watch what I eat in future. The extra gas I could produce might help contribute to a larger explosion.LOL.

He is really doing us a favor - probably a smart pilot who is trying to pre-empt the truly dangerous opinions. None of reason will take this seriously. So how are you supposed to prevent someone he deems dangerous from flying in a small plane, have TSA screeners at all airports? The fact is, that would be as effective as the new TSA policy of doing swabs on your hands to check for explosives. It would be no tougher to have your partner build and put the bomb in your bag (so your hands are clean) than it would be to put a gun to the head of a pilot before you forced him to take you off - as already demonstrated, any idiot can fly a plane once airborne if you don't plan to land. Frankly, a plane doing this scares more people, but a truck bomb is far more destructive.

I think the problem is closer to home than that. Either the authorities in USA, and thereafter everywhere else, will shake this off as another 'one time, you can't really defend against it' event or they will start another round of hugely inconvenient, annoying and utterly pointless regulations for all GA airfields.

Recently they 'closed the gate' at one particular airpark because someone went through and did not await to see the automatic gate closed before they taxied away. A whole bunch of user's were obliged to give up their keys and go and get a 'gatekeeper' each time before they could go through. That's twice every flight, how long before that gets a charge added?

Lots more of this nonsense coming to your neighbourhood soon courtesy of the TSA..

Well Paul (and others) here in Oz we have a wonderful sexurity measure around some of our airports- a wire fenxe, sometimes only 4 feet high. But better still there are a number of a/p I have visited where the sexurity fenxe runs about 200 yards eaxh way from the front gate and THEN.................nothing. So, assuming terrorist are not prepared to walk more than 200 yds to get axxess onto the field. GOOD STUFF THIS.
I know, I know, my key 'see' not working, so I use 'x'; I've got quotes on a new laptop.

Paul Hewitt - Feb 23,2010 Viewers | Reply
Yes Jim we certainly have some unusual airstrips around OZ. Only the flash ones actually HAVE fences. The ridiculous thing is that it doesn't matter how tight they make security at ANY airport once you have departed you can land and load up whatever you want even at your own private strip so are they going to start looking at that soon ie you can't own your own airstrip? Or you can but you have to pay a fee and relicense it every 12 months and have psychological testing in case you suddenly feel like flying into a building. It really is laughable but also scary as there are so many nutters out there like the loony above so who knows who the idiot politicians will listen to.

Jim sounds like your computer is a load of xrap..

Jamie Dantalis - Feb 23,2010 Viewers | Reply
Might be xrap...but sure makes his posts read interesting.

Eric Batterman - Feb 23,2010 Viewers | Reply
Jim, how about using the 's' or 'k' key as a temporary solution. You kould blow some kompressed air to klean out the keyboard. Then we wouldn't have to sensor terms like sexurity.

I just did a google search on this Dave Lindorff guy...turns out he is a frequently published nut case.
9/11 conspiracy theorist, etc. Eric was correct - he is a crackpot and fortunately has made it obvious with many examples of various screeds.
