Has anybody used the Headsets inc ANC upgrade. If so are you satisfied or would you recommend buying an ANC ready headset.
Thanks,

I did it about ten years ago, Dale. It worked pretty well, although not as well (in my SeaRey) as the Lightspeed 'Cross-Country' ANR headset, their cheapest model.

    Dale
I updated my Peltor 7004 headset with the ANC from Headset Inc purchased from ACS. Worked quite well, until I left the battery switch on in between flights. Anyway, this change made a marginal headset a keeper in the Searey environment. Intelligibility was improved by a significant amount but don't expect great frequency response for music. Nonetheless, the MP3 performance is satisfactory from my AERA GPS.
The cost was about $200 and went relatively easily. This is a very high quality kit but you do need to be able to solder and do fine assembly. Also, I had bought gel earseals that the ACS website recommended but when I received the final kit, it also included new gel earseals as well. According to Headset Inc., I could have bought the kit directly from them, removing the earseals. Best to talk to Headset INc about your particular situation.
The question still remains whether I should have just trashed the old headsets and bought new ANC headsets. I know I probably have the most expensive Pelter headsets. Old headset $ + ANC ($160 US) + seals ($40). I think Aviation Consumer / AV web had some recommendations for cheap ANC headsets but you had better look carefully.
I'm working on other senseless projects like updating an old David Clarke headset, with extremely comfortable cups and headband. Had to replace the helicopter plug and replace the unpowered dynamic mic. How can I resist?... but the mic. is over $100 !

I installed the mod in my David Clark headset around 8 years ago. Then upgraded to the Lightspeed Cross-country, then upgraded to the LS Zulu. The mod was worth it and worked fine but were never as quiet as either of the Lightspeed sets. I haven't used the David Clark headset in years. Probably ought to sell 'em if I could find them.

For what it is worth, I use Quiet Technologies headsets and everyone who uses mine
seems to go out and buy some of their own. The headsets are way cheaper than the Zulu
headsets and I think they are quieter and more comfortable even though they are passive
and use ear inserts. You can get them at quiettechnologies.com.

I upgraded a David Clark and an Aircraft Spruce (David Clark knock-off) headset years ago using the Headsets Inc. kit, with very good results.

This is a good way to make an old, non-ANR headset better, if you have one kicking around. If not, it might be easier just to get a new ANR set, or an in-the-ear set.

The Lightspeed QFR headset is made to go with the SeaRey's distinctive noise, as far as
ANR goes. I'm not as thrilled with the mike, but the ANR qualities are unparalleld.

I agree Andy. I have both the Zulu and the QFR. The QFR does a better passive job than the Zulu The net effect is that the QFR is slightly better over all. The clarity and comfort of the Zulu is tops!
