Jim Poel -Seabee pilot, retired American Airlines pilot, Test Pilot for the Glen Curtiss Museum died yesterday of a Heart Attack. He had fought a long battle recuperating from an accident with the Glenn Curtiss Albany Flier this past summer. It was the second test flight after the completion of the recreation of the flier by volunteers at the Curtiss Museum. He will be sorely missed for his dedication and enthusiasm for aviation and especially for the Seaplane community.

I met him when we toured the museum a couple of years back. He invited me into the restoration shop, we exchanged seaplane stories. I was a total stranger to him and he treated me like an long time friend. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by many.

Thanks for letting us know, Kevin. I was hoping he'd recover fully and get back to flying. He was a good guy and every bit as enthusiastic about little experimental amphibs like ours as about his Seabee and the Curtiss reconstructions. He was friendly and welcoming and thoughtful.
