Most trips are a mixture of success and drama. This weekend we went to Montreal and St Jean for Rhett’s Passing Out Parade.

(The Aviation connection is he has joined as a pilot. Tarrant has just passed Basic on Harvard 11s and Sterling is at Western where the CAF is sponsoring his Commercial Licence. He is flying Diamonds.) This was the third Passing ||Out Parade we have attended.

The Dramas.
Rhett gave us the wrong day. We had to drop everything and get a redeye.
Montreal infrastructure falling apart,
Slush six inches deep, hopeless snow clearing.
Useless signs on highways, each road has about four designations shown at random.
They burned down the only boulangerie within half a mile of the hotel the day before we arrived.
Inadvertently ran a red light in front of a police car, (between the infrastructure and the stress I didn’t even see it.)

The successes.
The cop must have felt sorry for the pathetic Western seniors, No ticket!
Enterprise Car hire. Decent car. No fuss renting, extended the rental and kept the day rate special.
The Meridien Hotel. Boutique, comfortable, ultra friendly, great location, terrific price.
The parade at St Jean.
Pacinos restaurant. Interesting and elegant, Good food.
Bistro Gourmet, petit and round the corner from the hotel. Prix Fixe lunch $10. Just wonderful food.
L’Academie on the Crescent. Full of McGill students and their families. Eclectic menu, good food. BYOW. Buzzy, noisy, fun.
Universal CafU for breakfast. Plates the size of football fields covered in pancakes, real maple syrup, coffee included.
Le Grain de Sel. Very, very special. Delightful menu, fun service, brilliant food. No 1 on Tripadviser and deservedly, but not expensive.
Westjet. Changed our flights, gracious helpfulness itself. Every flight spot on time.

Altogether More successes than disasters.
Attachments:
