Hi folks, thanks for letting me join the site. I love air and water. My wife and I are pilots and sailors, a seaplane just seems to make sense. We live in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, (got 9.9 inches of snow yesterday, AFTER we craned in our sailboat this last weekend).

I've always been intrigued with seaplanes and have had a soft spot for getting into them but just couldn't stomach the price of a Super Cub on floats or a Lake not to mention the hull insurance. The SeaRey is looking like an affordable entry point.

The summer before last I sold my Super Decathlon and have been looking for my next ride. I came to Florida last summer and checked out some weight shift birds and teh Aventura but didn't have time for PA. I wish I had... but that is the plan for a return visit this summer. Then, if all goes well, either a built bird or a kit on order.

I would love to get a look at the STS site too just to see what tech info and support is available.

Anyway, thanks for letting me on the site.

Thanks John. Jim, there are many folks here on the site, including myself that would love to help you
find your dream plane. For any technical questions, you can contact me or others who will volunteer
their contact info. I look forward to helping you as I'm sure everyone else here does too. You sound
like you would be a great addition to the family. Take care
Daniel
407 920 7700

There is catch 22 about the technical site, Jim. To access it you have to own a SeaRey kit or plane. It is the best user run airplane tech and support site there is. Until you get your SeaRey, if you have a technical question you can (1) directly contact owners on this site or (2) join the 'Serious Seaplane Site'. Let me know if you'd like an invitation to the serious side of seaplanes (but, really, why should seaplanes be serious?).

Just an administrative note...this site is free to all its members. Advertisements for sale of aircraft or services are permitted in the 'Reviews' section. Commercials or individual endorsements are also restricted to that section.

And, before you ask what the rules are, they aren't written down anywhere. The Administrators 'know it when they see it' and refuse to be restricted by the written word. They should probably all be impeached.

Wow, I am absolutely amazed how helpful and friendly you all are. One of my sidekicks is astronomy and I'm a moderator on an astronomy site and it's the same friendly helpful atmosphere there.

I'm getting a sense of what Searey folks are all about. I've talked to some of you folks and greatly appreciate the candid info and advice.Like someone new to astronomy asking all the dumb questions, I appreciate the time and effort to 'educate' me.

    Jim
As Dan indicated the catch 22 to the STS site is that you actually have to be an owner to be able to access the site. The good news is that there are a lot of searey owners, pilots and searey experts out there that can give you plenty of information that you need to make your final decision on the purchase of a searey whether it be a classic searey or an LSX. I can help you either way. I really enjoyed our conversation yesterday and I will be happy to talk to you at any time.

THanks you Ollie, and thank you to everyone else taking the time to answer the questions. I'll tell ya, there isn't much on internet to get basic SeaRey or even seaplane information, so thanks everyone for providing info.
