So much of the process is out of my control, the best I can say is: Sometime in May. I'll continue updates as things progress.

Tsk. Brand new and already it needs a jump start from a truck. (It does seem to run smoothly, though.)

Thomas Yowell - Apr 25,2011 Viewers | Reply
We used a jump start because we hadn't completed the wiring for the battery/ignition system.

Tom, the installation looks really neat, especially considering that yours is the first in a SeaRey. Compared to a 914, it's very clean. It'll be interesting to see if there's enough air through the radiator--probably depends on the cowling configuration. I found that airflow low over the rear of the wing and directly ahead of the 914 is sufficient for the Rotax radiator and an oil cooler, but my coolers are mounted a little higher than your radiator. I added onto my cowling piece by piece until the temps started to rise and then stopped adding. I'm sure it could be improved, but I'm too lazy to fool with it now.

Looks like a neat set-up. I hope it turns out to be a real viable alternative to the Rotax. Good luck.

I located another you-tube video of the Honda motor on Tom's plane. It is a bit longer then the first one to. I went with Tom and picked it up yesterday to bring it back to PA for finally assembly. I am getting really excited for Tom and his motor. I have been helping him through out the building process and can't wait till his plane is completed. I have been around the Honda motor since he was getting one for his plane well over a year ago. Each time I get more impressed with the motor and the builder and believe it is going to exceed all of our expectations. So take a look and safe flying.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUcYu9ARDT0

    Tom who makes the gearbox......

Thomas Yowell - May 09,2011 Viewers | Reply
I'm not sure of the company name, Phil, but Jan Eggenfellner says it is made by the same people who have been making Subaru gearboxes for him for the past 15 years. I've heard they had some initial problems with the Subaru, but they were resolved years ago. There is a detailed picture on the Viking web site. I too was initially concerned the gear box would be the potential weak point on this type engine conversion, but Jan has over 300 flying hours on it and no issues, so I'm more confident with it now. Right now, I don't think he wants to diviulge his suppliers. Don't blame him; I wouldn't either.
