Sometimes the quickest way to cure the patient is just to kill it. That’s the theory for introducing hydrilla into Lake Apopka. “Let hydrilla take over and nasty lake water won’t spread downstream. It will quickly fix the unconsolidated flocculent muck.” The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will consider the controversial idea at a hearing tomorrow.

I’ll bet some Corpse of Engineers bureaucrat came up with the hare-brained scheme. The plan: screw things up now so they can come in later and spend many millions of dollars screwing it up even more with their fixes.
Attachments:

After reading the article, it seems the gov naturalists do not want the hydrilla, but the bass fishermen do. Since the gov acknowledges that hydrilla is not a native species, I doubt they will allow it. Sounds to me like the bass fishermen are using the pollution as an excuse to make the lake more valuable to them at the cost of everyone else' desires. I'm surprised the newspapers aren't saying it's the fault of those damn seaplanes.
