Here are photos and a video of Dale Kramer flying his electric-powered amphibious Lazair--taking off and landing on Keuka Lake, at Hammondsport, NY: http://www.seaplaneinternational.com/2011/08/12/the-first-el
ectric-powered-amphibia-in-the-world/ (The video is about halfway down the page.)

The sound of those electric motors starting up gives me chills! But I think the most startling part of the video comes when he's landing. It's very quiet, and I had almost forgotten that there was sound in the video--until Dale's wife, Carmen, starts talking to him.

I flew this Lazair a few years ago, when it was powered by two 17 hp engines. With that much power it leaped off the water in only a few seconds and, as I recall, climbed about twice as fast as with the electric motors. But it made a whole lot more noise.

It flew very much like a feather-light SeaRey, except that there was no elevator trim--and the breeze. Steering on the water was with the throttles.

Thanks to Markku Salminen for the link to a link to this page!
