Hey guys,
Some of you may have heard about a SeaRey crashing in Lake Agnes down at Sun and Fun yesterday. That was my father Kevin D'Angelo. He is ok but pretty banged up. He suffered 5 broken ribs. Just wanted to let you all know that he is ok.
He was on take off out of the lake giving a ride when at about 100ft he thinks the main bolt at the bottom of the strut fatigued and caused with wing to buckle and throw the plane in a spin into the lake. He was able to free his passenger and himself before being rescued by nearby boats. We are extremely thankful that this didn't turn out worse. Keep him in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.
Bill D'Angelo

Hey Bill, I was there yesterday when you dad had his accident. I'm glad he and his passenger are doing well. I know what it is to have 5 broken ribs so he's going to be sore for awhile. If there's anything you guys need let me know. I'm headed over to my friends on the north end of Lake Agnes this morning and will see if I can get over to Fantasy of Flight and check on Kevin's Searey. Attachments:

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family, especially your dad. Im sure this
will not stop him from getting back into the left seat again in the near future. Please keep
us posted as to his recovery.

The airplane has been recovered and investigation of the incident is still underway. While there may be some issue as to whether the strut damage was pre-impact, Bill, what is clear is that your dad did an amazing job getting his passenger out of the airplane and avoiding a tragedy.

(And, just to be clear, technical discussions are underway on STS but are not appropriate for this site.)
