This is a great video about saying Goodbye to USAIRWAYS! USAIR started out as ALL AMERICAN AIRWAYS, and only carried the mail. They bought some larger planes and started carrying people too, in fact they brought over French Girls to be the Flight Attendants, at first! They eventually grew and changed to ALLEGHENY Airlines, which is the Airline I first flew for. We got even larger, took over many other Airlines, ( MOHAWK AIRLINES in upper State New York area, LAKE CENTRAL AIRLINES Indianapolis areas , PACIFIC SOUTHWEST AIRLINES California areas, & PIEDMONT Southern Areas ) then DEREGULATION happened, with the Government, and we were then allowed to change our name from ALLEGHENY to USAIR, and eventually USAIRWAYS.

After September 11th, 2001 happened, all the Airlines lost a lot of money, and USAIRWAYS ended up filing Bankruptcy, not once, but twice! A much smaller Airline, AMERICA WEST AIRLINES in Phoenix, bought USAIRWAYS and we kept our name. We bought AMERICAN AIRLINES, as they had Bankruptcy issues years later; but it's time to change our name.

We have been the leading name in all the Acquisitions throughout the years, but now it's time to say Goodbye to USAIRWAYS, and start anew with the name.....................AMERICAN AIRLINES!!!

To me it's like coming full circle. Starting out as ALL AMERICAN AIRWAYS, and ending up................AMERICAN AIRLINES!!

Enjoy the youtube version of Goodbye to USAIRWAYS!

Judy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EV_B_SF_prU

Thanks, Judy. That's quite a story. Do you miss the work?

Hi Don, I always wanted to become a Flight Attendant, since I was a child. Don't ask me how or why I had this feeling about it, butI did. I'm so thrilled that I continued on with that 'feeling' and fulfilled my dream. I've been retired now, since the best 'buy out' ever, with Pension and all the trimmings, for 19 years and it will be 20 years this coming October. I put in 25 years and about 22 of those years were commuting from Florida to Pittsburgh. I would have to say the commuting is mainly what 'wore me down.' For many years it was 'second nature' for me to first get on a plane to go to work, and to get on a plane to get back home, but toward the end of that time; it became much harder for me to do it. It is very sad to see the name go.........but that's the way it has to be. In reality, USAIRWAYS was no longer really USAIRWAYS; because it was bought by AMERICA WEST; but in all of our hearts; it was still our Airline. Judy

Thanks for that Judy. How sad to see another great airline name
disappear. Like you, my life, after Air Force years, was spent in
the airline industry. Forty years five months
with TCA / Air Canada....Four years with Aer Lingus / Irish Intl.
and two years with Air Jamaica.
A great life but now we worry about the future of our pension
and the future of the industry. Who would have thought that the
great names of PanAm...Eastern...Braniff...Swiss Air and many
others would slide into oblivion. My second grandson has just
written his commercial licence exams. He is the fourth
generation Edward family pilot. Sure hope he has as much fun
and job satisfaction as we did.

    Dave,

Steer your grandson to www.propilotworld.com Great group of people there, and they offer a 1 week free trial.

Take care,
Steve

From the perspective of a former frequent passenger Judy, I too am sad to say Goodbye to USAir.
