Cool, Russ! Do you think you'll be able to fly it out of sight, using the camera to navigate--and get it back home again?

Don, I haven't had the confidence in my flying ability with this little heli to use the GoPro in it yet. The camera used is a cheaper HD but I'm making a foam mounting pad for the GoPro to go under the heli. Frank, if I get a chance I well try flying the heli cam at the gathering but I'm just learning so it might be best for you guys that have your planes in the yard that I don't fly.

It looks like you are doing great with it Russ. I know the RC helicopters can be very difficult to fly. I have a DJI phantom quad copter that works excellent as a camera platform. I can fly it completely out of site using Fat Shark FPV goggles. I see what the camera sees thru the goggles in real time. You can see good thru the goggles, however they are not HD. The playback video quality after the flight is much better than what you see thru the goggles during the flight. If you fly the copter out of control range, it knows where it took off from and will automatically come back home via gps and, will land within 10 ft from where it took off from. The only thing that takes some of the fun out of it is that it takes very little skill to fly it. Also the battery life is only around 8 minutes. It don't sound like much but you can go a long way in 8 minutes. I would highly recommend the phantom for anyone that wanted to do some GoPro aerial photography. The cost is around $500.00 for the copter ready to fly, plus extra batteries and camera. If you want the FPV goggles they are an additional $300.00. The GPS technology the copter uses is awesome. You can put the copter in a hover and it will stay within a few feet of where you want it to stay with no input from you. It will compensate for the wind, and maintain altitude within a few feet of where you want it to hover. You can lay the remote down and the copter will just stay in the air where you left it at.<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or > missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Bring it to the fly-in Joe. I made a flight just now with the GoPro installed in a foam mount under the skids and got a good video of the yard and lake but I got nervous because I came close to the tree in my yard that I almost blew the landing. These little helicopters like you say are hard to fly.
