I was out for a nice afternoon of flying and splashing down the James River in Virginia, when I suddenly was reminded why we're advised to stay well clear of convectional activity. Here's a short video:

Saw this first on YouTube Don. My surprise is that you didn't land immediately.. Another good video.
The only nearby lighting strike I saw was at Lake Charles, LA while on a downwind and cleared to land. I made it a close base leg! We were stuck there for 2 days in heavy rains.
Living in Florida (aka lightning Ville) I added one of those lightning detectors to display on my Archer's Garmin 430 map. My purpose: avoid, avoid avoid.,
