Question for our expert Members? Any tips for a flight to the Bahamas?

Bring your towel. Was going to say bathing suit but not sure that's required.

Went to Norman's Cay, Black Point/Exumas, Hawk's Nest/Cat Island and finally Bimini on our return leg with Rob
Galloway/Jones Bros with 9 other seaplanes last November. We're scheduled again for 11/2021.

It was just incredible!

Paper work you M U S T have before you go:

Customs and Border Patrol Decal.
Radio Station License for your Aircraft
Radio Operators License for one person on board your aircraft
Eapis filing for all individuals leaving and re-entering the country
You may also need proof of negative Covid

Open the International Flight Plan within expected departure times. On the way out, not as critical, but on the way back
to the U.S., you better be filed and in contact with Miami Approach before you cross the ADIZ, or expect some U.S.
Jets/Helicopters to accompany you. We didn't put 12inch letters on our Searey as some recommend, U.S. CBP didn't mind.

Review all of AOPA's 'general aviation in the Bahamas' stuff. Start with https://www.aopa.org/travel/international-
travel/bahamas

Most important to note which airports HAVE GAS and at which airports you can CLEAR BAHAMIAN customs. For example,
you can clear customs for your RETURN to the U.S. at Bimini (MYBS), but they don't have gas!

On our way out, we cleared and gassed up on Andros Island (MYAN). Once you clear, you don't have to clear again if you
hop to other Islands in the Bahamas. Bring C A S H. Gas is 100LL, although if you bring a collapsible can, you can haul
auto gas from some of the marinas on the other islands. Also don't be surprised at $10-12/gal.

Be 100% sure of your aircraft! We had one Searey stranded at Exuma International Airport for a week or two with carb
issues. The owner had to fly Chris Hynote/Flying Fish LLC there to make repairs in the hot sun.

If you're planning on salt water landings, FOG the airplane with ACF50 (a whole separate discussion!) and bring a spray
bottle of ACF50 with you to spray all hinges AFTER washing off your airplane at the end of the day.

It can be very WINDY in the Bahamas, the end of Oct beginning of Nov was pretty good, although you're still dodging
occasional thunderstorms.

I hope this helps, and Good Luck!

Check with ROB GALLOWAY/JONES BROS, Tavares Florida. Rob usually arranges for an early NOVEMBER trip.
