    Is Falcon insurance the go to provider for light sport and experimental amphibs? I need to start looking at my options but didn't want to check with one if there is a better option elsewhere...I assume it is like it used to be in that if you ask through one broker, you can't inquire with others? I am a low time seaplane pilot, 600TT but only 10hrs SES time.

    What coverage are you looking for?

First Flight Insurance (3rd party Liability only) has recently added amphibian gross weight coverage to 1,430 lbs, which is not yet shown on their front page Eligible Aircraft list, but is on their application. You must be a member of USUA (US Ultralight Association).

Amphibian Max Gross Weight 1,430 lbs - $580.92
USUA membership - $40

    Full hull coverage is very expensive. Prohibitively so for most. My quote from 15 years ago was $6000 annual premium for $50K value and a $5000 deductible. Could have almost bought my plane twice now for that amount. Most people get liability and self insure the hull. Makes us more careful in the air which is a good thing.

    I received a quote with hull value of $75K with 10% deductible for $2400 but they require 15 hours of dual instruction which I thought seemed a little much? Is that the norm?

    The time required might depend on the pilot's prior experience, Daniel, but 15 hours doesn't seem unusual, especially if it's for in-motion hull insurance. Check with the Searey instructors group to see how many hours they expect for transition training. Some of them check in here, and I think there's cpntact info on the Searey.com site.

    I do believe you are correct if you go to one broker
they kind of lock you in and no one else will look at

    I had good luck with aviation insurance resources in Maryland. And I'm brand new to Searey flying.
The broker really worked hard to help me out and felt he really knew his stuff.

    I put in a quote request with Falcon so assume I am bound to them now?? Hopefully, I will talk with them more this week.

    I read somewhere recently that most of the insurance companies have quit locking in the brokers. Even if they do, you can request to change brokers if you have issues with Falcon. The new broker will send you a form to fill out and that "fires" the old broker.
