We are thinking of coming down to FL and flying our Searey around from Dec 24-26th.
Does anyone have any recommendations for day destinations from the Apopka area for me to take the wife?
Any suggestions for places that should be open would be appreciated. Thanks

Gator joes or Eatons Beach on Lake Weir are both great spots. Lilys on Lake mineola is nice. Cedar Key is a great trip. Fly out the
Crystal River and low over the Gulf to Cedar Key and you will really appreciate your Searey.

Bill- Do you ever land the Rey at Cedar Key? IF so, are there any places that you might recommend in that area?
Thanks

And, you might consider coming south and west along the Gulf Coast to Albert Whitted airport in th Tampa area and/or further south
to Venice (KVNC) which has 2 runways and a very nice Cafe (plus a waterfront eatery tho the latter requires a good walk or a ride).
And Sebring to the South of Apopka area is nice, home base to Lockwood Aviation, and Lake Jackson, 6 miles north of Sebring, has a
waterfront restaurant tho high water has overtaken the former sandy beach I'm told.

Scott, when flying into Cedar Key , request a ride into town on the unicom and the local taxi will be there when you land. Very
reasonable and a few nice restaurants overlooking the beautiful water. Lester used to pick me up in his old checker cab...ride me into
town (short hop from the island airport). I told him I was going to eat lunch. Lester said "take your time...I'll wait". He stopped on
the way back to the airport so I could get my 5 g gas can filled. When I asked him what I owed, he said "whatever you want to pay".
Lester is no longer there, but the new lady is just as nice. Have fun!

it's not a real long runway with water on each side. so, don't dilly dally on getting the power on once on the runway.

Took your adivce and flew to Crystal River and followed the river to the Gulf and then the shoreline to Cedar Key. Landed there and
hitched a ride to town. No taxis today. Got a tour of the town but unfortunatley the only thing open was a gas station and a
minimart. Got a cold drink and bathroom and then flew to Tavares to try and get a bite to eat. No joy there either, all was closed.
Had a grat day of Rey flying anyway. THe wife liked it which is most important.
