My wife and I have recently purchased a SeaRey. The former owner has been kind enough to help us with transition training. He is very proficient with the aircraft, but his CFI rating is not current. We are getting pretty comfortable in the aircraft. With that said, we have about 3 hours each in the SeaRey, so we still have plenty left to learn. We will be flying with the former owner again as weather and our schedules allow. In order to get insurance, the carrier wants to approve a CFI to sign us off. We may go without insurance until we convince them they want to insure us, but I thought I would ask. Are there any CFIs in the DFW area with SeaRey experience (or even general seaplane experience)?
Thanks in advance,
-mike

Extending the search... any CFI's near Texas?

Mike, keep us posted on who you find. I'm in McKinney and will want a checkout too. Building a SR. but progress is slow. Where
are you at?

Hi Mark. I'll keep you posted. I am southwest of fort worth at 50F.

I don't know about Texas, Mike, but there are plenty in Florida--including several excellent SeaRey transition trainers. There's also Jack Brown's seaplane school, at KGIF (Winter Haven).

Thanks Don! The two coasts are a possibility, but I was seeing if there was perhaps a more local option for satisfying the
insurance folks.
Jack Browns is where Carolyn and I got our seaplane ratings. We took Carolyn's Dad (a CFI since the 70's) and went through
the rating together. That was the most fun I have ever had in training.

You might see if John McLeroy or Don Laughlin or one of the other official Searey instructors is willing to train you in Texas. See: http://www.searey.com/the-searey-experience/training

Daniel Myers isn't a CFI but has done SeaRey transition training for a number of pilots. Maybe your insurance company would consider him, too. Same for Paige Lynette, one of the Progressive Aerodyne originals, who also travels for SeaRey work.

    Thanks again Don!

Hi Mike. Did you check with the folks at Cedar Mills? Their database of pilots attending their fly-in probably would turn up a name
or two. A bit further afield I could ask around here at Hicks T67 if you'd like.

Thanks Bob. I haven't talked to anyone at Cedar Mills, but it would be worth a shot. Actually hicks is right up the road from
where I live 50F, bourland field southwest of Fort Worth. Someone at Hicks would be quite convenient. I heard there was one
SeaRey based there, but I don't whose it is.

Hi Mike. As time passes, the insurance companies seem to want the training to be done only by experienced searey instructors, and
several larger companies are requiring 10 hours minimum regardless of your experience. Earlier this year four of us instructors
formed the Searey Flight Instructors Association which may become the only approved instructors to do the training if one wants to
insure. We are slowly expanding the network, and hope to add instructors in the central and western US, but as of now you have
myself and the others listed on the searey.com website. Time allowed, I don't mind traveling to do training. I am booked through
early Dec and usually require 3 or 4 weeks prior notice to fit someone into the schedule. My schedules fluctuate however, so give
me a jingle and we can talk. Some companies will still allow Paige or Daniel to do the training but neither is a CFI so that seems to
be influencing the ability to insure. Call Dan Wroe 410-991-5514. He is from CSP and on the road now.

Hi Mike. I look forward to seeing your LSX! We have been talking to Don and if we can get our schedules to work out, we'll be
flying with him before too long.

I am at 50F southwest of Fort Worth. The searey isn't here yet, but you are welcome to come on over when we get it. I'll
update you when it arrives.

Thanks Don. I appreciate the help. Coming to you would be a viable option as well, but there is some merit to training in the
bird we will be flying.

    I agree

Don is the man to go to, along with a couple others in our area. John McLeroy is another. Also, my buddy, Greg, who is a relatively high
time SeaRey guy is now back in the saddle and will be resuming training in SeaRey's. He is willing to travel. His info is 321 356 4798.

Mr. Freeman, we do have an LSX to train in if you come to Florida. Just give me some lead time for scheduling.
