Hola. Not sure. I just want to fly over to the closest Customs Entry port. Then maybe fly around for an hour or so and fly back to Fl. Where is the best place to leave from? I am in Gainesville, but obviously would fly down the coast closer to the islands before going across. Do you ever think about landing in the Gulfstream if an engine failure? Do you take a lifeboat? What altitude to you go at? Maybe you could email me and I could call you to discuss?

thanks in advance.

Definitely worth it- only problem is cost - there is no rhyme or reason to what they charge you so it can cost 25 per person for immigration and then from 50 to 150 depending on the agent. The government has been idiots and no one knows what to charge - I ended up in a shouting match with one when they tried to double charge me in Treasure cay. One important tip is to use cruising permit form and not the general dec that we used in past. With that said the Abacos are fantastic and the Exumas a wonderland but need some time to explore. Bimini is the closest but haven't been there in years.
If Gulf stream is calm just life preserver. If rough you really should have a emergency raft. I usually don't have the space for that because of luggage so bring a small blow up raft- not great but if necessary would help in being spotted. A must is a SPOT tracking device or static plb which will make your time in the water very short.
Make sure you have your us sticker and there is debate about the large N numbers for coming back in the states
Do it though- it is worth it

Thanks for the excellent info. I think I will go to Bimini first. One question, what is the US sticker? I will look into it, but thought it might be more efficient if I just asked you.
thanks again. I am getting excited!!!

Per AOPA: All aircraft penetrating an air defense identification zone (ADIZ) must have markings at least 12 inches high, at least temporarily. Using 2-inch-wide electrical tape is an acceptable method to temporarily display the aircraft's registration markings.

Flight to the Bahamas requires crossing the ADIZ .

Thanks Bruce. My letters are 12" so I am good to go on that account.
