Does anyone have any current information on insurance for SeaReys?
I'm 76 years old and have absolutely struck out on all insurance options. Can't even get liability!

Keith, there has been a lot of discussion about insurance over on STS, the Searey Technical Site. (To join STS, just click on "Help" at the upper right of this page and enter your name, contact info, and Searey kit or serial number. And mention that you'd like to join STS. In a day or so you should get email telling you how to log in. If you have any trouble with that, let me know and I'll help you.)

Briefly here: I'm older than you and still have insurance--but it has been harder to get every year since I hit 75. It's clearly age-discrimination. My broker is Falcon, the Seaplane Pilots Association's broker. Several other Searey pilots have recommended other brokers. Search for "insurance" on STS for them. And Avemco has been a last resort for several pilots--a last resort because they don't seem interested in insuring passengers.

How much are you guys paying for insurance annually?

I had a searey 4 years ago and my insurance was around $4800/yr. I have 600hrs total and 50 hours sea. I am looking at getting
another searey or float, not sure as yet. Had the broker look at estimates...holy cow! For a newer elite based on $160K, I am getting
quoted $15,000/yr!!! I am also looking at a Scout on amphibs...quote (with no time in type) was $5800 for same hull value. WTH?

    Thanks, Don
I don't own a SeaRey or a kit. In the market to buy but not if I can't at least get liability coverage. I'm updating all endorsements
and getting more time and will run the trapline with the insurance companies again next Spring. Fingers crossed my efforts will pay
off!?

No guarantees about insurance, Keith; but I think the important thing is be persistent. It may be necessary to compromise, too. Agree to annual flight reviews with an experienced Searey CFI, for example.

I know what you are facing. No company would even give a quote for my Searey. Finally got liability only with no passenger
liability from Avemco. I am 79 with over 27,000 hours! I guess I am still a neophyte!

George, sometimes a broker has to look for a long time for a helpful underwriter. Searey time matters, too. And then there's luck. But I think it's mostly the broker. They have to have energy and patience.
