Date Posted: Jul 13, 2008 Description: By the time I crawled into Randy’s home base at Berrien Springs the last student pilot was putting their C172 away from the night. The pilot’s lounge was closed. A check of the airport guide showed a hotel “one mile” away. I secured the airplane, grabbed my duffle bag, and started trudging down the road. In just a few minutes an instructor (still in uniform) saw the sorry sight, took pity, and picked me up in his 1983 rusty rambler. I was happy for the ride even if the hotel turned out to be a Hotel 4-1/2. Who can complain when the morrow is bright with the prospects of clear blue waters on Georgian Bay?
