This is what Michael has had to say from his blog site...
A couple of weeks back, I wasn't sure what to do next, but I've decided to keep going for a bit yet,
so after this week of exploring the Scottish Highlands, I will return to London, reunite with Southern Sun
and we'll fly to New York.
The trans Atlantic route in 1938 was from London by train to Southampton, then alighting in the
Imperial Short C-class to Foynes (Limerick) Ireland, across the North Atlantic to Canada then down to New York.
I don't have the range to do Ireland to Canada direct, plus I've always been keen to see a few islands
in the North Atlantic, so finding a balance between History and modern day exploring, I have come up with this route.
London
Southampton
Foynes
Faroe Islands
Iceland
Greenland
Canada
New York
I could do this in half the number of stops, but I'm keen to see this part of the world,
and am allowing 2 days (1stop) in Iceland and 3 days (3 stops) across Greenland.
Seeing UK weather for the last two weeks has also made me very conscious of how often
there is low cloud, so I am aiming for 4-6 hour legs which will make weather windows more likely.
Luckily it's getting dark at 10.30pm in UK, and will be around midnight across Iceland and Greenland
opening up more possibilities.
