Without authorization the decision not to fly was reluctantly made. The conditions were marginal anyway. (Sour grapes?!#      Attachments:

After a quick stop at San Remo to offload excess toys, it was on to the Monaco boat show. You can tell you're getting close by the floating carpet of yachts. It cost 75,000 Euros per day to park inside so most just anchor outside the port.      Attachments:

The SeaRey got top billing for the show, co-starring with the helicopter on the upper deck.      Attachments:

SuRi was almost lost in the flood of fiberglass. Leaving her behind reminded me of what Ann Morrow Lindbergh had to say, "Those fields of daises we landed on, and dusty fields and desert stretches. Memories of many skies and earths beneath us - many days, many nights of stars." (Well, sorta. In a metaphorical kind of way. Not lots of memories of dasies or dust or desert with SuRi!)      Attachments:

Signs pointing to the yacht show were on every street corner in Monaco. It's a little place. Not much need for signs.      Attachments:

With all the restrictions associated with the show, excess crew were sent ashore. We had to make do with $800 per night rooms with city views. Being next to a casino was no benefit since they don't give receipts for the expense account.      Attachments:

Leaving Monaco there was only one way to go....taxi to Nice. With some time to tour I walked along the avenue terrorists attacked recently. There was no sign it had happened other than four soldiers with serious machine guns strolling along with the other tourists.

It was time to go home. “I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can. Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lives in a cloud, formidable from a distance.”
― Beryl Markham, West with the Night
