All the way there from the James River in Virginia the ceiling was steady between 800 and 1000 feet MSL. The visibility was good below the clouds, so we flew on, enjoying the ride. Here's our first view of the lake--it's an arm of the main lake, which is quite long and wide.

By the time we headed home the ceiling had gone up considerably and we even had some blue sky. All in all it was a very pleasant Searey day.

Missed you on Saturday Don. The weather on Saturday was perfect, after the fog lifted. Ralph and I were able to get off Claytor Lake just before noon. That gave us 2-4 at the event. Had a great time. Free lunch and gas and gave 3 rides to very excited passengers. Then had a great trip home - even being delayed by no gas available at South Boston airport, until the airport manager brought us a 5 gallon can of auto fuel. That put us back to Claytor 20 minutes after sunset. I was ready to go to PSK if necessary, but found there was enough light to make a safe water landing. All in all a great Searey day that would have only been better if I could have shared it with y'all.

It's interesting how people on shore can think it's night, but out on open water there's still enough light to see clearly. (But it's good to have a plan b, as you did.)
We tried to get there on Saturday, Jeff, but the weather didn't cooperate. (Actually, it was lovely late afternoon and evening, but too late for Lake Gaston.) Sunday--well, we made it, but too late for lunch. It was a pleasant ride, though, and the water and beach conditions at the lake were excellent.
