Yeah, well, don't go there at sunrise or sunset without a couple of gallons of 100% DEET.

Mosquito repellent should be on your must have list....I was pleasantly surprised that between 9 AM
and Noon, I did not even see (or
feel) a mosquito while riding my bike on roads that were lined with mangrove wetlands.

It is a great SeaRey trip, Wayne, but when getting there at sunset and walking to town I had a choice: get eaten alive or walk in the toxic cloud spewed by a mosquito control spray truck. I tried to keep up with the truck. At the hotel the clerk said that anything less than 100% DEET was just candy to the flying mutant piranhas.

Do they have any flying mutant piranhas and/or spray trucks in Fiji, etc.?

We probably need a new T-shirt...
""I gave blood...

in Everglades city"" :-)

I'm sure the 10,000 islands is even worse at night. I was temporarily lost in the Maze in a
waverunner a few years ago. No
compass , no insect spray, no drinkable water. Fortunately, I spotted a fishing boat with a ""tuna
tower"" that was a few islands from me ,
and I followed the boat to open water.

Am I correct in recalling that no seaplane landings are permitted in the ""10 thousand islands""?

The islands that are within the Everglades National Park are off limits to seaplane operations. My
understanding is that line starts just
south Everglades City and includes the little town of Chokoloskee. The others north of this area (to
my understanding) are ok to visit
by Seaplane. Many islands on the outer rim have nice private sandy beaches.

Well Frank...Thanks for bringing this up. Although the first landmass starts at Chokoloskee, the
national park has a jagged edge
north of Everglades City. My pictured island (that I have visited) is north of the prohibited area, but I
can see how a seaplane pilot
can venture into Park Ranger trouble.
