Description: Not a SeaRey story, but after starting this project about 13 years back, this
weekend it finally saw the water for the first time. Ali, my frequent copilot
and I took to the lake on an amazingly beautiful morning. I had put this
project aside when a partner in the last plane crashed, taking a couple lives in
the process. Shortly after, I acquired the SeaRey as an abandoned project and
it took over all my spare time. The kayak sat dormant in the basement,
occasionally getting a little attention in small spurts. This spring I finally
finished with 9 coats of Epifanes. It was great to see it on the water finally!

Absolutely beautiful!! Encourages me to build one (or two). How do you like them in the water? How much does one
weigh?

It would almost be a shame to use. Beautiful work of art. Congrats on
completing your project..

Truly a work of art, Dennis!

I have four (NONE as nice as yours) , but I really enjoy the quiet relaxing travel.

Congrats, Dennis! I remember admiring that kayak in your basement and marveling over the craftmanship. Must be a great feeling to finally get it wet.

Awesome Dennis, and I'm betting they're even more gorgeous in person.

Thanks all! They are truly a work of art! It's painful to let it so much as rub in the sand when coming
ashore. It came in
at 52 pounds and the fibreglass boat next to it is 54 pounds. It's done with no filler anywhere,
meaning each strip was
refined to fit perfectly, completing only one or two strips per evening. The wood boat is reserved for
gentle cruising, the
fibreglass boat's for the more wild conditions.

That baby really ought to be in a museum, Dennis. But then you'd just have to build another to paddle around in.

Before scratching on the sand Dennis, you should donate it to a Yacht Club or the Smithsonian. No wonder your SR landing gear
works so well!

I know nothing about wood kayaks, but that sounds really light. Nice job and beautiful! As far as scratching it, my views on
such things have changed. I used to try to keep my guitars like brand new. Now, I just view honest wear as part of what
happens when it is used for what it was intended. Regardless of whether you keep it a scratch-less showpiece or it acquires
reminders of great memories on the water, I hope you enjoy it often.

I'm with Don. Ellen and I both remember that visit with Don and Carol years ago and the basement inspection.
Wonderful to see this gorgeous dream finally completed!
Now get back to the boom tube cover..
Or does this mean you'll be spending more time on Lake Ontario ?

What a memorable evening! How could we forget Dennis' exquisite craftsmanship on the
kayak! And the world's best pizza, created by Dennis on the grill! And the wonderful
hospitality and company of the Dunlops and Vogans! You saved our lives by persuading
us to stay an extra day! When we reached Alexandria Bay the following day we found
the town littered with downed trees and debris from a fierce storm that had come
through the day before. Thanks to you, we missed that. Forever grateful!

Hi Carol! Yeah, I forgot about that. You and Don were planning to fly out that night! We'll have to do it again. But you guys will
have to come up here for that. This time I've got lots of room since we're empty nesters now.

It's similar to some of theirs but this is a slightly modified design by Steve Killing called the Endeavour.
