Description:
Everyone knows a seaplane is always welcome at our house, especially a Searey. The other day a Searey was floating back and forth by our dock apparently looking for a place to beach. I went out and waved the pilot and wife in. I didn't recognize them and figured we met them at a fly-in or similar event in the past. We invited them in for a drink and the wife commented this was a lot of work for a meal. My wife began suspecting I had posted a free meal to flying guests on the internet. Over the soda we discovered they were told a popular waterfront restaurant was located on our lake. When they didn't see it, they called and were told look for the orange windsock and pontoon boat on the east shore. When they disconnected from the call and spotted it, I came out to the dock and waved at them. They were sure they found it. ""Greg"" had told the guests from Texas the wrong lake and sent them to our lake. The Tiki Bar is actually the connected lake north of us. Every once in a while, we are amazed at the happy accidents and new friends this world gives us.

What a happy error!
Dave, I have to ask if you are, or related to, the Dave Martin who used to edit Kitplanes?

No I'm not. I'm also not the Dave Martin, aerobatic champion and Breitling Watch spokesman. (But I was able to get into the Breitling Watch VIP tent with my name and wearing one of their watches at Sun-n-Fun 2 years ago)

It's at Grass Roots. Right now I'm not venturing too far away. I will try for Garners Landing and Paradise city in April.

Ah, well, I'm not the Don Maxwell who services Mooneys in Texas, nor the cricket player from Barbados. I don't wear a watch any more, either.

I got excited when I first saw Dave Martin on this site because I am the cousin of Dave Martin, former Kitplanes editor, who was one of my mom's best childhood friends. I enjoyed meeting Searey Dave Martin at Garners.

Buck, I'd forgotten you were cousins. Please tell him hello for me. We've never met, but he published several articles of mine in Kitplanes--including one about the very first Garners Landing Searey Gathering, in 2000.

Your beautiful place also is a great spot to make repairs when your tailwheel cable hangs up inflight at dusk. Thanks again Dave. Check the pulleys above your tailwheel at least yearly folks.

Hi Dave, nice meeting you and Geargeanne at Tavares the other day. I flew over your lake the other day. Nice place, I'll have to stop in sometime. We agreed that my lake is a little small but look forward to meeting up again soon.

Nice story. I think Dave's place should be added to Dan Nicken's list of favorite restaurants in Florida.
