    Seaplane Friends,

We hope you can come to the splash-in on Saturday, September 24.

High tide will be at 10:30, so there will be plenty of water, and we''ve put in a request for excellent weather. (Rain date is the 25th.) Lunch around noon.

Here''s a fuller invitation, with more info and photos: https://amphibflyer.wordpress.com/2016/06/15/fall-2016-splash-in/

= Don and Carol Maxwell

P.S. Here''s a link to the spring 2016 splash-in that got cancelled. http://searey.us/splash/?News&p=70JxzzcHE Lotsa pics from last year there.

P.P.S. We're home and hoping for seaplane company most days! And there are two high tides every day. So any time you're looking for a place to splash, please consider Jordan Point, on the James River a few miles southeast of Richmond, Virginia. 804-543-7110.

The 14 day weather forecast looks perfect.

Do you still believe in 14-day Weather forecasts Professor?

Don Maxwell - Sep 18,2016   Viewers  | Reply
Sure, Frank, and the Farmer's Almanac, too. I'm ever the optimist. But I'll settle for the 6 day forecast, which predicts "Mostly Sunny" for this Saturday. http://www.usairnet.com/weather/forecast/richmond,virginia/

(Not too happy about what it predicts for Sunday--but then who believes in long-range weather forecasts anyway.)

But this one is right more often than not: http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?state=VA&sta=KRIC So when it agrees with me, I like it best.

Thanks, Frank. And the forecast for the weekend looks good.

The forecast for tomorrow continues to look good: partly cloudy, light NE wind, better than 6.

The 12 hour forecast looks perfect: Mostly sunny, 020 at 6 knots, better than 6 miles. The splash-in is ON.

Plan to see you tomorrow, Don. Will take off around 9 or when fog lifts. That would have been 10 this morning.

The longest distance AND the newest Searey awards both went to Peter Magnuson, who flew in from Ocala, Florida, with something like 75 hours on the Hobbes.      Attachments:

Some of the group, on the beach. The guy in the black shirt and shiny sunglasses is our next-door neighbor, Neal, the pilot who graciously let us taxi up onto his lawn.

    Kevin's droneview (short).

If this file won't play for you, try downloading it (save link) and then it should play. Something seems to be screwy about how the site handles some video files.

    Don,
How about the long drone video version. It was starting to look real good. Amazing video quality..

Don Maxwell - Oct 03,2016   Viewers  | Reply
Paulo, that one is only a couple of seconds longer. But there's a much longer one that shows Bill's Legend Super Cub taking off from above. I'll either post it here or incorporate it into a YouTube video that has both movies and stills. (Probably the latter.)

That's Kevin Manning's drone. It has a 4k camera that makes really sharp videos, especially on a 4k display. (B I G files, though.)

    Here's a video of the splash-in: https://youtu.be/aHWmePKMVj8

It contains video clips and stills from four different persons, one a professional press photographer. You'd think that would make it easy to put together a video, but the opposite was true. I often found myself with multiple recordings of the same scene and had to reject terrific photos and video clips because someone else had been in a better location or had the better lens for the occasion. And at other times no one got the good stuff. That's not a complaint, of course.

Don, the 16-minute video on YouTube was great. Among other things it showed you had great conditions, weather and water. And
the drone portions showed the overall set up wonderfully. Can't believe how stable the drone videos are.

Nice Video Don! Thanks. At 6:11, we are looking at Dave's Searey and someone says "180 in that plane?"

Don, it would have been fun to head up there I just wish the timing was better and looks like you had great weather which is the hard part.

Looks like you had perfect weather Don, a great turnout, and a good day. Congrats.
